Fill Pharmed With Orange and Green

The undefeated Hurricanes take on cross town rival FIU at Pharmed Arena on the FIU Campus on Saturday night. The Canes are within a shout of the Top 25 and are getting lots of love nationally from the likes of ESPN's Andy Katz and the Sporting News Mike DeCourcy. Our boys are currently ranked in the top five of the RPI poll and have one of the best scoring defenses in the nation. With a nationally televised matchup against Mississippi State of the SEC being discussed actively by many Canes fans, WE CANNOT LOOK PAST THIS OBVIOUS TRAP GAME. Mississippi State is still a week away. We have to beat FIU first for that game to mean what it could and should. (I would also point out Mississippi State isn't as good as some of us thought they'd be this year- I picked them to win the SEC and they haven't shown much yet)

I will be making the journey onto FIU's campus to attend this game and cheer our team on. Pharmed Arena seats 5,000 people so those that regularly attend UM games in December (about 2,500-3,000 of us) can easily fit into the arena. A game against a cross town rival with nothing to lose can easily turn into a season killer particularly if the atmosphere is as hostile as it may be. I have never been an advocate of Paul Dee's policies for giving FAU and FIU return home games in Basketball (I don't mind legitimate travel to low or mid majors like when we visited Georgia State a few years ago, but road games in Sweetwater or Boca Raton make no sense to me) but given the opportunity to support our Canes on the "road" I would hope many of you will join me and make this trip to FIU.

I'm told as many Canes fans will be at the arena as FIU fans. GO CANES!

Pharmed is closer to a HS gym than to the BUC. Seats about 5,000 with bleachers on both sides and nothing really behind the basket. They have a limited amount of chairbacks but the rest are wooden bench seats. It's a 25 year old dump of a facility, but like you I am planning on going.
