The new top 25 polls have been released in Basketball and Miami has fallen out of the AP Poll after a 1-1 week that featured a loss to Ohio State at home and a win at Kentucky. Miami remains ranked #25 in the USA Today/ESPN poll.
In the most important "poll" of all, the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), Miami is ranked #16. While it is too early to really focus on the RPI, Miami's difficult non-conference schedule early combined with ACC play probably means that the Hurricanes have a larger margin for error then most teams in the country.
Turning our attention to Football, the discussion about the Emerald Bowl has focused on Miami's porous run defense that will be forced to contain Javid Best. Miami's pass defense will be tested by Jeff Tedford's scheme. Nate Longshore is a top national QB.
The other news this morning is that it is being reported that Miami Offensive Coordinator Patrick Nix will be interviewed for the Head Coaching vacancy at Auburn. Nix, who has been under fire at Miami is probably being simply given the courtesy of an interview as a distinguished alumnus. Miami did the same in Basketball when Rick Barry was given an interview after Leonard Hamilton left for the NBA.

Canes Rising Morning Digest: ACC Bowls

Miami is one of an NCAA record ten ACC schools headed for bowl games, and one of five teams from the state of Florida. Florida is of course playing for the national title, but Miami was picked for a bowl game ahead of Maryland, Wake Forest and NC State due to what the Emerald Bowl perceives as the Canes TV drawing power.

This was a banner weekend for the ACC. Not only was Virginia Tech crowned the new champion of the league in football, but the ACC went 3-0 versus the SEC in Basketball and ten teams were invited to bowl games, a record.

Believe it or not the Canes Rising postgame report is not the only piece available about this game online. While most eyes were focused on football yesterday enough were watching basketball to make this the latest signature road win for Frank Haith, who previously had won at North Carolina, Florida and Maryland.

Miami enters tomorrow's nationally televised clash at Rupp Arena back at full strength with Jack McClinton receiving word from the ACC that the conference interprets his ejection as a non fighting foul and will not enforce the mandatory NCAA suspension for fighting fouls. Eddie Rios has also been reinstated despite rumors and published reports that his time at Miami was coming to an end before the end of the Fall Semester.
The game is tomorrow at 5:30 PM on ESPN.

Orlando Sentinel: Noles Snubbed by Gator Bowl
UM could be picked for the Emerald Bowl, Humanitarian Bowl, or the Eagle Bank Bowl. It appears the Emerald Bowl in San Francisco who picks first of the group will take UM to set up an attractive TV matchup with a PAC-10 opponent.
The Emerald Bowl has opened up fan voting to determine what team the bowl should invite from the ACC. As of this writing Miami holds a huge lead over Wake Forest, with Florida State third and Maryland fourth.
The fallout from Tuesday's controversial UM loss to Ohio State continues. How will the Canes respond against Kentucky on Saturday in another nationally televised game? That will be the subject of tomorrow's daily digest.

Canes Rising Morning Digest: McClinton Ejection Leads to Canes Loss

The Bank United Center was rocking last night before an unfortunate two seconds turned a Miami rout into an Ohio State win. Jack McClinton who began the game on fire hitting four three pointers in the first eight minutes was ejected for slapping an Ohio state player in what appeared to be retaliation.

The #21 Canes face Kentucky at Rupp Arena Saturday in another nationally televised and difficult game. Face slapping is unlikely to be part of that game nor is Eddie Rios who is suspended indefinitely.
