Canes Rising Staff
- Matt Bosher was selected the team MVP on Sunday at the annual football banquet. For all the Randy Shannon and Pat Nix bashers out there can you finally admit that if your kicker is the team MVP for school that did qualify for a Bowl game and will end the year with a winning record, that the coaches are doing something right?
- Bosher was the #1 ranked kicker in the country coming out of high school in the Jupiter area and was one of Randy Shannon's first recruits. His campus visit took place when Larry Coker was still coaching the team, but Shannon who has a philosophy about signing one kicker every recruiting class (hence the recruitment of Jake Wieclaw this past year) sealed the deal.
- Steve Walsh the former great UM QB and current Sun Sports and ESPN 760 analyst for UM Football has been named the new Head Football Coach at Cardinal Newman HS in West Palm Beach. Last year Lamar Thomas became the WR coach at Boynton Beach HS. Both Walsh and Thomas could end up on the UM staff down the road.
- The Hurricanes fell out of the Top 25 this week in Basketball despite a 2-0 week. Miami was ironically replaced in the polls by Clemson, the Canes next opponent. Polls are largely meaningless in College Basketball and for a UM team that has either looked spectacular or pedestrian this season with really no in between, not having a national ranking to defend for the first time all season may be what the doctor ordered. Besides thanks to some outstanding early scheduling Miami's RPI number continues to be high putting the Canes much like last year in a position where a .500 season in the ACC will probably secure an NCAA bid with a decent seed.
