Rock Bottom Leads to My Vindication

Let me get this out of the way before I move any further. For those of you who wrote me nasty emails and attacked me for not being a real fan on the message boards for suggesting that this team could be worse than last year, got a lesson in reality today. I deal in reality all the time with this team which is why two years ago when Miami spent much of the year in the Top 10 and Kyle Wright had decent statistics I wrote the team and Wright himself weren't very good. I proved to be correct. Last year when I ranked Miami lower than any preseason preview because of the lack of playmakers, I proved to be correct. This year, I have gone on the record saying Miami will struggle to even be bowl eligible, and after today's performance suggesting that they could even make bowl eligibility means I severely under estimated how poor they are.

Oklahoma is not a home juggernaut as many suggest. In recent seasons they have struggled to beat Baylor, Tulsa and Iowa State at home. They have also been defeated by TCU at home. Miami's performance today was worse than what many non-BCS league teams would give in a similar game. Not only is Miami's talent void evident every time we see them play a decent team from any BCS league (Miami is 4-9 in its last 13 games against teams from BCS leagues, which is slightly better than Florida State's 4-10 record against BCS league based teams in the same calender span, and far worse than South Florida's 7-5 record against BCS opposition in the same period of time) but the coaching staff is green and bordering on inept. Randy Shannon has wed himself to the Cover 2 defense and the same defensive breakdowns we saw in 2004 when Miami gave up yards in bundles we are seeing this season. On offense, Patrick Nix's shotgun based play calls are not conducive to a power running team, or at least a team which should be a power running team.

I don't have much more to say. As I predicted, Miami isn't very good. I have Miami winning two games in the ACC for sure and then having to fight to win any of the other six. I had wondered aloud after being raked over the coals over on the message board whether I was too harsh on this team. But time and time again through the years I have been right about the Canes, because I watch them so closely to the point my live revolves around them almost completely. (Heck, I even named my dog Sebastian.) If you want a view of the Hurricanes with rose colored lens, don't come here, but if you want a realistic assessment from a true fan who wants us to regain the glory of years past, I'm happy to try and do my best give that insight.

You are 100% right Ryan. Kirby ought to transfer to a school where they still run the option. Kyle needs to start the rest of the season unless Shannon decides to pull a Coker and pull the redshirt off Marve. Now that would be truly idiotic if he did that.
