# 8 1995 Florida Gators

One of the best Gator teams ever was sadly remembered by some for the humiliating loss to Nebraska in the National Title game. However, no team since Alabama in the mid 1960s ever dominated the SEC like the Gators in 1995 and 1996. The 1995 season was particularly dominant with the toughest game the Gators faced all year a victory in Baton Rouge against LSU by 18 points.

The high octane Gators hung 62 on Tennessee and 35 on Florida State. They were led on offense by Danny Wuerfful at QB, and Running Back combination of Fred Taylor, Elijah Williams and Terry Jackson. The Wide Recievers were all world. Reidel Anthony, Ike Hilliard, Jacquez Green, Chris Doering and Aubrey Hill helped make the Gators the most potent aerial attack in the nation. Jack Jackson had left early for a failed NFL career which allowed Green to get right into the lineup and become the ultimate game changer. Jason Odom had a banner year anchoring a line that gave Wuerfful and Co. the best protection in the business.

The Defense was led by some real studs. Ben Hanks, Mike Gilmore and Lawrence Wright anchored a hard hitting and fast secondary, while James Bates, and Johnnie Church were standout linebackers. The defense performed so well prior to the Nebraska bowl debacle that Coordinator Bob Prewitt got the Head Coaching gig at Marshall, which he parlayed into a none year run of great success for the Thundering Herd.
