Canes Rising Staff
We don't normally like to comment on message board banter on this site, but our reporting yields that a decent chance exists that Robert Marve has played his last game for the Hurricanes. Academic issues have also been reported although the Orlando Sentinel reported this morning that no decision on Marve availability for the Emerald Bowl will be made until after finals conclude this week.
Jacory Harris was the hot hand towards the end of the season. Harris led impressive comebacks on the road at Duke and Virginia, in games where Marve's play had dug the Canes into a hole. Additionally, Marve did little to distinguish himself from Harris in losses to Georgia Tech and NC State to end the season.
After an impressive performance against Texas A&M and a solid performance against North Carolina, Marve collapsed. His performance against Florida State was poor, and despite leading wins over Wake Forest and Virginia Tech, both those performances were more related to Marve's feet than to his inaccurate arm. Marve threw only two TD passes in the 27 quarters of football this season: that is not going to cut it on any level.
Our gut feeling on these rumors are that Marve may be transferring but he will take some time to determine whether or not to make the move now. In all likely hood this will all be cleared up before spring practice, and we'll know if Jacory Harris has been able to jettison any serious competition for the job.
