Gameday: Time to Break the Doldrums Against BC

As we've discussed numerous times on this website and our sister radio podcast the Hurricanes have had nothing but difficulty and frustrations against Boston College over the past eight seasons. Thirteen straight losses to a single opponent represent an embarrassment for any major program in a power conference. While it's not Clemson's fifty three year losing streak in Chapel Hill against North Carolina, it's pretty pitiful to say the least and after all Boston College is not exactly North Carolina.

Tonight the game boils down to Miami's perimeter defense. Tyrese Rice is just the latest Boston College outside shooter to kill the Canes. Recall Louis Hinant, Ryan Sidney and Troy Bell among others? Boston College matches up decently Miami and can expose Miami's biggest weakness, three point field goal defense. This having been said the Eagles have tanked this year after starting the ACC 3-0, they have gone 1-10 in the last eleven games. The three early wins included a thrashing of the Canes, a win at Maryland and a game where the Eagles scored over 110 points against Wake Forest. So the collapse has been fascinating to watch, because the Eagles looked really really good at one point. Hopefully tonight, our boys will be focused on the task at hand and take care of business. Looking at the RPI, a win will make Miami's next week and a half much easier probably saving the need for a deep ACC Tournament run. However, if the Canes lose tonight the situation will be disastrous, and our RPI and power rating will slip immensely. Everything hinges on tonight: Can the Canes close the deal and put themselves in a position where only a disaster and inordinate number of bubble teams going deep in their league tournaments will eliminate the Canes? Or will the jinx of Boston College continue and put the Canes behind the eight ball for the upcoming trips to Tallahassee and Charlotte?
