Frank Haith and the Miami staff have been raving all season long about DeQuan Jones who is headed to the "U" next season. His current High School Wheeler outside of Atlanta is near the top of the state rankings in Georgia.
"I think he's a McDonald's All-American, I do," Haith said. "I think the kid is terrific. I think he is a tremendous athlete, but he's 6-6 and he's got the look--and I'm not going to compare him to a Dwyane Wade or Michael Jordan--but he's got that look. Right now he's really shooting the ball well."
Howard Garfinkel, the co-founder of Five Star Basketball, recently told Haith, "If there are 25 better players than him, then I want to see them." Jones is ranked between 26-50 in Scout.com's recruiting rankings and #56 overall by Rivals. Haith has previously at Miami recruited several players ranked higher than Jones in one of more of the recruiting services (Brian Asbury, Jimmy Graham, Eddie Rios, Denis Clemente, Lawrence Gilbert) but has NEVER expressed this much excitement about a recruit. Canes fans hope that the new practice facility set to pen next season and a good ACC run this year is the precursor to more big name recruits coming our way
