Frank Haith's recruiting magic yielded another big catch today as Reginald Johnson, a 6-8 big man in the mold of Elton Brand committed to Miami after visiting VCU and Cincinnati and receiving interest from ACC foes North Carolina, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech. Johnson who is from Winston Salem, NC is yet another recruiting success for coach Frank Haith on Tobacco Road. While ACC Football coaches are enjoying beating up on the Canes and receiving a higher profile thanks to Miami's inclusion in the league (and also recruiting well in Florida), the opposite seems to be happening in Basketball where Miami has not been as uncompetitive as many in the ACC thought (despite a disastrous season last year, Miami was as we noted before a pest to top teams like North Carolina and Maryland in the its first two years in the league) and now has raided the ACC Heartland for big recruits three years running.

Oops. I meant to say Carolina wasn't really recruiting this guy heavily, but I do commend Miami for entering the league and competeting at a very high level. Even last year when they finished last in the league, they were a really really tough game in Coral Gables. An undermanned but spirited bunch. I think you guys will be pretty good this year. I'm anxious to see what you guys think about your guards- we know your forwards with King and Collins are going to be monsters, but the backcourt maybe your downfall.
