# 4: 1987 Florida State Seminoles

This was the first team in a 14 year run where Florida State either finished in the Top 5 or played for the National Title every season. The Noles had lost 3 games of more every season between 1981 and 1986 after playing for a shot at the National Title after both the 1979 and 1980 season. This team's flashiest player was Deion Sanders, but Sammie Smith, Dexter Carter and Marion Butts led one of the nation's most potent rushing attacks, and QB Danny McManus had superb targets in Ron Lewis, Bruce Lasane, Pat Carter and Herb Gainer. Paul McGowan was arguably the best defensive player in the nation. Florida State did not win the national title in 1987- Miami did. But Florida State's team with a historical perspective in mind was certainly more dangerous and more significant. Miami's win in Tallahassee owed itself to one remarkable quarter of Football and some amazing plays by Michael Irvin and Steve Walsh. But FSU had dominated 3 quarters of the game and had proven to be the better team. The Noles crushed eventual Rose Bowl Champion Michigan State and SEC Champion Auburn on the road, and beat Nebraska in the Fiesta Bowl.

Bowden recruited the best black athletes this country had to offer for the last 20 years. It's surprising he didn't do better than he did during this time frame.

I assume this is a joke, right?

Color has nothing to do with it...

However intelligence is a major factor in his recruits becoming busts like Adrian McPhearson, Chris Rix, Snoop Minnis... and the list goes on and on.

Not that every school doesnt have their dumb-asses, but if you are going to say "Bowden recruited the best..." keep in mind the number of STUPID people that that list includes.
