Hurdle Returns for Canes

Senior point guard Lance Hurdle the engine on Miami's NCAA Tourney run a year ago started today's Paradise Jam first round matchup versus Southern Miss. Hurdle missed the season opener with injury. Check back here for updates on the game.

I've subscribed to the tournament in its entirety on-line for $24.95. I understand the semifinals and finals will be on TV but should Miami lose today all three Canes games will be on-line only.

Here is a link. I cannot guarantee it will work for anybody but the subscriber but you are welcome to try.

Adrian Thomas three pointer put Miami up 20-11, but Southern M iss coach Larry Eustacy took a timeout which resulted in an 8-2 Eagles run. Current score is 22-19 at the under 8 timeout first half.

Canes lead 36-24 at halftime.

Southern Miss opens the second half strong and has cut the Canes lead to 38-32 at the under 16 timeout.

Dwayne Collins beginning to take over inside with a strong move to the basket that nets a three points play. Collins has 11 and the Canes lead by 11 with under 12 minutes to go.

Timeout with 5:30 to play by Southern Miss. Canes lead 64-49.

Canes win by 10, 70-60. Some good and some bad come out of the first legitimate test of the season. Dwayne Collins is a beast inside and is finally playing up to their potential. The bad news and this could be very bad news or simply an early season swoon, but Miami's free throw shooting late was nowhere near where it was last season or where it needs to be. Jimmy Graham missed three free throws late and even more surprising were missed free throws by Lance Hurdle and Jack McClinton, both 90% plus shooters a year ago. Miami's lead stayed between 12 and 15 the final 5 minutes as the Canes could not make free throws and then Southern Miss scored 5 points at the very end of the game to finish with a ten point defeat.

Much more later on this game.
