Several media outlets including WQAM, the flagship station of the Miami Hurricanes sports network and WPLG are reporting that Miami will promote Assistant Coach Randy Shannon to Head Coach tomorrow. Shannon who is African-American and a former Hurricane player has not received any job offers elsewhere and the hiring indicates that Miami is unable to land a big name coach given the stringent demands the UM Athletic Department is placing on potential candidates. (UM is trying to dictate to potential coaches who to choose as Assistants and the types of players to be recruited.) I want to stress that while these are the reports their is no confirmation from the University, but if Miami goes ahead with the hire, they might as well turn the whole Football program lock stock and barrel over to Jimmy Johnson's cronies and allow Donna Shalala to focus on Academics. It is obvious that only two serious candidates were considered and both are cronies of JJ/Dave Wannstedt coaching tree that has ruined Miami Football. Good riddance on Miami and its now second class Football program.
9:00 PM Update
Canesport.com just reported that Donna Shalala has called off the coaching search and that contract details are being worked out with Randy Shannon. Shannon, the master of the n-on halftime adjustment (Why don't we play Cover Two and not pressure the QB even though we are being shredded up and down the field......I wouldn't want to chage my philosphy) would be as bad a game day coach as his mentors, Jimmy Johnson, Butch Davis and Dave Wannstedt. R.I.P. Miami Football. It was a nice run, and the run is now officially over.

Kartik,
You are obviously out of touch with college football. The coaches you named were all WINNERS. So I dont need to revisit their accolades with you. What makes you not think that Shannon will not be a good candidate? I really dont see any difference between him and Schiano. It just seems that Schiano took a risk earlier in his career than Shannon when he decided to leave 6 years ago and take over a limp program. Now, 6 years and some media hype generated from a 10 win schedule (against teams like UNC, Howard et al.) Schiano is the man. Just some thoughts, if you are a canes fan, you'd be happy!
peace
Chris
You really hate Shannon that much? I'm a huge Canes fan, and altough disappointing, it could have been much worse (Mike Leach). Like the blog by the way, keeps me up to date with the Canes while all the way in PA
