Miami and FIU Coaching Update

  • Miami interviewed my choice for the job Mike Leach of Texas Tech, but apparently he interviewed badly and also insisted on bringing his staff from TT to UM so he is no longer being considered.
  • Miami has interviewed Defensive Coordinator Randy Shannon who has a standing offer to join Mack Brown's staff in Austin as Associate Head Coach if he does not get the UM job. He is also a finalist for the Head Coaching job at FIU.
  • Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops has urged Paul Dee to meet with his brother Mike Stoops who apparently would take the UM job if offered to him. Mark Stoops, the brother of Bob and Mike was on Miami's staff for many years as the Defensive Backs Coach. Mike Stoops has done a good job of rebuilding Arizona who was a train wreck under John Mackovic, but apparently Mike Stoops would be willing to ditch Zona if he got the Miami job. Maybe its something about coaching Football at a Basketball crazy school.
  • The Pittsburgh Post Gazette is reporting Rich Rodriguez wants to talk to Miami before deciding whether to take the Bama job or not. Rich Rod, whether you take the Miami job is not an issue. DON'T GO TO BAMA! THOSE BOOSTER AND CRAZED FANS WILL RUN YOU OUT OF TOWN IN 3 TO 4 YEARS!
  • The Bernie Kosar idea is idiotic and I find it hard to believe that Miami's leadership is doing little but humoring him.
  • Mario Cristolbal Miami's o-line coach is a finalist for the job at FIU, but FIU has indicated they want Miami's coaching search to conclude before lining up their own coach.
