We had to dig deep for this one......thanks to the ESPN Encyclopedia of College Football we learn that the last AP Poll where BOTH Miami and Florida State were unranked was the final poll of the 1978 season, dated January 3, 1979. The last time both were unranked in the coaches poll was the poll dated September 19, 1983. The following week Miami returned to the poll after a three week absence and went on to claim the national title. Folks, we are watching two proud programs make real dubious history this season. Keep in mind Miami's last loss to a team that finished below .500 for the season was to Temple in 1979. Perhaps, FIU or Duke can make history the next two weeks. If I was a betting man, I would bet that either Duke or FIU beats Miami and ends that long streak.

How was Miami unranked the same season they won the title? Were things different in those days as far as climbing the polls?
When the BCS comes out and should Florida remain unbeaten in the next 2 weeks, look for them to hold the #1 position thanks to strength of schedule and quality wins.
Right now, the whole country is shaking with laughter. After two decades of being terrorized by Canes and Noles, it appears the dynasties are over forever.
I laughted so hard a little pee pee came out when I read the polls today.
I wonder if either Miami of FSU will make it to a bowl game? Perhaps the John c. Crapper Bowl for Miami and the Foot Locker Bowl for FSU.
You damn Gator fans better crow while you can because you are not repeat not a dynasty. People would never tremble with fear saying "the big bad Gators are coming to town." FSU's trips to Michigan, Miami's trips to Oklahoma and Notre Dame. FSU's trips to Ohio State and Nebraska. FLORIDA HASN'T LEFT THE SOUTHEAST FOR A GAME SINCE 1991! THEY CANNOT BE NATIONAL CHAMPS. REGIONAL CHAMPS MAYBE, BUT NEVER TRUE NATIONAL CHAMPS.
FSU and Miami will rise again from the dead and restore the natural order of things. Just wait and see.
No one has seen "Figthing" Ibis in these parts lately. He's probably hopped on the Ohio State bandwagon by now!
Nole Fan 1...the if the Gators are regional champs, then it is the same region that FSU and Miami are in last time I checked. Why do the Gators need to leave the SE when all of the talent is here, with the exception of FSU and Miami.
Did you ever think that the reason UF took UM off of the schedule was to increase our power ratings and play tough opponents like Southern Mississippi. Having a crap program like Miami on the schedule would only cheapen the ranking.
I wish the best for the Canes this season, but hope their fans can enjoy some more of the typical backed up toilets at the OB home games...or maybe since only about 2000 fans are attending now, they are not backed up. If the do get backed up, I'll bet it is from Najeh Davenport.

You'll be pleased to note that I kept FSU on my ballot this week that I cast on Armchair GM. I am afraid they will yank my credentials for that vote, but I can justify it by saying, um, um, um, well hopefully they won't call me to the carpet on it.
