Brandon Meriweather's Apology

As printed on ESPN.com:

I wish to express my deepest apologies for the fight that took place in our game against FIU. This apology is unconditional and wholehearted. While I cannot excuse my actions of that night I do wish to explain them.

I was not part of the initial fight that broke out. However, I did see that my teammates more specifically the placeholder were being attacked by the FIU players. At that point I went over the pile so that I could control my teammates and prevent the fight from becoming worse. When I arrived at the pile, I did not use my better judgment and instead of helping the situation, I participated in the fight, much to my regret.

As a team captain, I have come to expect more from myself, and I should have led by example that night. The fact that I did not hurts me more than missing this next game.

Again, I apologize for my teammates and my inexcusable actions and the damage is has caused to our fine university, the ACC and the NCAA.

No one has asked me to write this letter but I feel that I should take action on my own without my coaches' or my parents' urging. As one of the leaders of this team I feel writing this letter and taking full responsibility for my actions and apologizing is extremely important.

Sincerely
Brandon Meriweather

That's all I am going to write about the FIU-Miami fight. It was disgraceful, but most of Miami's players were provoked and/or acting in defense of their teammates. Again, it's still disgraceful.

Miami is held to a higher standard because Miami has set a higher standard. The 'Canes have won five national titles in 23 years. They play on national television as often as any program outside of Notre Dame. Right or wrong, they are one of the elite programs that represents college football to the rest of the country. And they just screwed it up for everyone else.

Thanks Jorge. I encourage you to read my posting about ESPN. They are fanning the flames of this and are really hypocritical and wrong headed in most of their arguments about UM.

I agree. All the Miami guys should be suspended and the program disbanded. I mean, can you imagine, a bench clearing brawl in sports? The Yankees nor the Red Sox would ever do such a thing because the media loves them, oh wait, oh never mind!

Who wrote that little apology for Brandon Merriweather?

We all know he isnt literate enough to come up with that all on his own, besides he speaks Ebonics not proper English.

Someone named Paul Dee stayed up late writing that BS!

Did anyone else notice that Meriweather looked like a major coward in the fight?
Watch the video again - as he's kicking/stomping players, he hides behind another player... as the other player moves, he moves with him.
Of course, this was all spur-of-the-moment, but that's when true character is shown.

"Following Florida State's 38-34 win over Florida Saturday, fisticuffs erupted after FSU players stomped on the "F" at midfield of the Swamp and were confronted by Florida players. There was pushing, shoving, thrown punches and helmets swinging.

Officials from both school and police interceded and pepper spray was used to break things up. Bobby Bowden apologized on behalf of FSU and Ron Zook said he would review the matter and take appropriate action"
