Touching all Bases in the ACC

  • NC State's Chuck Amato is probably as good as gone unless he pulls a miracle and beats either Florida State or Clemson on route to a bowl bid
  • Drew Weatherford's late game heroics are making FSU fans forget the pain of Chris Rix and could have Weatherford among the legends that have played QB in Tallahassee before he is through.
  • North Carolina coach John Bunting has a big problem at QB: Both Cam Sexton and Joe Dailey are struggling and with the Tar Heel defense not playing as well as the last two seasons, Bunting joins Amato on the hot seat.
  • Al Groh's Virginia team is undermanned and underperforming. Not good news for a coach already in big trouble with UVa's fan base.
  • A Maryland win Thursday over West Virginia would salvage some damaged ACC pride. Thus far the Big East has won the two highest profile matchups between the two rival leagues, with Pitt crushing UVA and Rutgers beating UNC in Chapel Hill.
  • Ted Roof's Duke team may have lost in the last minute to Wake Forest on Saturday, but Roof's disciplined approach appears to be paying off. Don't be shocked if Duke beats someone in the top tier of the ACC this season.
  • Jim Grobe has QB issues to deal with at Wake Forest, but the Deacons are 2-0 despite some real shaky offensive play.
  • Rumors out of the Miami campus indicate that some players have already quit on Coach Larry Coker. Don't buy that. Coker doesn't take lightly to dissent and if players are dogging it, they won't play. This having been said, Miami is still in for a rough season that very well could cost Coker his job.
  • Georgia Tech's Tashard Choice looks like the next top ACC running back. Choice has lots of speed but is also powerful enough to break open field tackles.
  • Poor, poor Clemson. What else can you say? No other team in America other than possibly Texas Tech consistently loses more close games than the Tigers.
  • Matt Ryan is quickly making the Boston College fans forget about Quinton Porter. Tom O'Brien is proving once again that he is one of the nation's best coaches.

How can you be serious to have Duke ahead of Miami?

Have you watched both teams play or are you just making statements based on the symbol on the uniforms?

Duke has played better than Miami this year. I am not claiming they have more talent or that they will have a better record. Right now they are a better TEAM, IMO. Duke's defense has played with heart and the offense is beginning to look organized. Losing the Richmond was bad, but their play against Wake in Winston Salem was better than Miami has played since beating Va Tech last season. So if you are keeping track, Duke played better Football this past Saturday then Miami has IN THEIR LAST FIVE GAMES. Thus for this week they earn a higher ranking.

DUKE AHEAD OF MIAMI? DUDE, I KNOW YOU ARE TRYING TO STIR IT UP, BUT THAT'S JUST TOO MUCH. ALSO WHY IS NC STATE LAST? DON'T THEY USUALLY GO TO A BOWL???????
