A Cautionary Tale

Kevin Olsen is in trouble again.   Following his recent arrest, Olsen has been dismissed, and is no long listed on the roster.   This arrest, which involves impaired driving, and possession of multiple identification cards is serious and should lead to Olsen seeking professional help.  It's obvious that Olsen cannot control his demons, and has a serious substance abuse problem.  It's not Olsen's first scrape with the law.  He was ticketed for leaving the scene of an accident in 2013, and there has been allegations that Olsen was  intoxicated at the time of that accident.  Olsen again has found a way to not only embarrass himself  but the program as well, and Al Golden is right to dismiss such a troubled individual.

Kevin Olsen is a player who has gone from potential starter,to a player who was 4th on the depth chart behind two physically limited players, and a true freshman that arrived on campus in late July.  The fall of this once highly touted player is a cautionary tale to those who want to believe that talent should overcome everything, and that a player who runs afoul of the law should be coddled.  It's now obvious that Olsen should have been dismissed after his second suspension.  This isn't a guy who may have experimented, it looks like a serious problem.

Olsen isn't the only disciplinary issue that has crept up the past week.  Defensive End Al-Quadin Muhammad has been suspended for the season.  While there hasn't been official word on what action led to the suspension, many people have proposed that Muhammad assaulted his former roommate*. Al-Quadin was suspended by Patricia Whitely the VP of Student Affairs, which lends credence to the fight theory.  Muhammad is not only banned from the football program, he isn't allowed to take classes, which has led to rumors of him transferring.  That looks to not be the case  as Muhammad has been spotted in the stands at home games.  Hopefully, Muhammad can learn from the Olsen situation, straighten his life out and return to the program.  This should be his last chance, if he's allowed to return.
