Miami-North Carolina Live Commentary

8:25pm ET: ESPN College Gameday has come on the air with a one minute clip glorifying Tyler Hansbrough. That a teaser for the Hansbrough love fest which will ensue during the telecast tonight.

8:35pm ET: I have opted to watch the Mississippi State-Vandy game rather than to be exposed to more ESPN propaganda. I will return to ESPN at tip off.

8:40 pm ET: Is it any coincidence that ESPN has a former Duke player and a former UNC player on this show with a former Notre Dame coach?

8:45 pm ET: ESPN is probably thrilled Pitt lost today. They've had a very awkward time describing Pitt as the number one team in the country the last few weeks. It is almost a given that they will lobby to drop Pitt behind two loss UNC, should the Canes lose tonight to the Tar Heels.

8:50 pm ET: Jay Bilas "Jack McClinton has not shot the ball well in the last three games." Again an emphasis on meaningless stats by ESPN. Jack's shooting percentage is generally poor in the first half of games. No mention of a game winning shot against Maryland the other day.

Speaking of Maryland, I bet ESPN is thrilled that the Terps program is falling off the national map. I always got the impression that the network was annoyed that Gary Williams bunch frequently broke up the Carolina/Duke party that is the ACC on ESPN in late 1990s and early part of this decade. Now that Maryland is struggling they can be safely ignored in the ESPN universe.

9:00 PM ET: Jay Bilas says Carolina is the best team in the country. Didn't Wake Forest just beat UNC?

9:05 PM ET: DeQuan Jones gets the start for the Canes!

9:10 PM ET: Dickie V going on about Durand Scott. Nice to hear! Hope he's as good as Vitale claims he'll be.

9:15 PM ET: The fouls are beginning to pile up for the Canes. What else did we expect against Carolina and Hansbrough? Why does Dews take that crazy shot?

9:20 PM ET: Great block by DeQuan Jones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Under 12 timeout first half, bad turnover by Hurdle, but the Canes lead by three, 13-10.

DEQUAN JONES MAKING A STATEMENT!

Hansbrough has already shot 9 free throws in less than 12 minutes.

Canes lead 32-29 at the under 4 timeout.

Canes lead by nine at the under eight timeout, 32-23.

James Dews is killing the Canes with dumb shots

Coach Haith tells Erin Andrews the truth: " We can't get any calls."

SECOND HALF

No call on Hansbrough for shoving DC. Should we be surprised?

Finally! A foul on Hansbrough.

The Canes have lost their mark on Ellington. That's Jack's man. He's lost him several straight times down the court.

Under 16 timeout, Wayne Ellington is hot and Carolina is now up 7.

Canes collapsing down 14 at the under 12 timeout. Jack needs to get hot or this one is over.

Ellington another three. Goodness.

Wayne Ellington has seven threes.

Is Jack hurt? ESPN won't tell us.

Jack is back in the game. Dickie V seems to like DeQuan Jones, but I prefer Mike Gmiski who actually knows something about the Canes team BEFORE HE CALLS THE GAME.

82-65 final. With Florida State sitting at 2-1 in the league, Wednesday's game is as close to a must win game as you get this early in ACC play, because it's a two-fer so to speak.
