Canes Rising Staff
File this in the "further proof Randy Shannon is doing a good job file."
Despite the bluster of message board residents and recruit nicks that Miami is full of blue chip talent, the Canes were the only team to not put a single offensive or defensive player on the All ACC first or second teams released today by Scout.com. The only Hurricane to make either team was Matt Bosher who won second team kicker and punter (Bosher is the only player selected in two different positions).
The only player worthy of mention is your kicker, yet Miami fans seem to believe 7-5 is a bad season. Something is without a doubt not right with this picture. For the record when I saw this roster in the spring I thought Miami would struggle to finish 5-7 again. What has transpired is Randy Shannon and his staff have developed a gritty bunch of players who came from behind four consecutive weeks in ACC play to win close games. That's coaching.
Despite the obvious lack of talent the Canes are bowling once again after being shut out of last year's post season. Is anyone really satisfied with 7-5? Of course not, but given the time required to rebuild a program from the ground up, a program basically missing any junior or senior leadership, 7-5, and 4-4 in the league is a great sign that things are pointed in the right direction. An even better sign is that you can win seven games without any all conference selections on offense or defense.
Incidentally, local product Thaddeus Lewis of Duke was the second team selection at QB behind first teamer Russell Wilson of NC State.
