Going Bowling

After six consecutive seasons of regression the Miami Hurricanes have officially improved from one year to another. Jacory Harris continued his heroic play on the road in a great comeback against a Virginia team which at this point in time is superior to Miami. In fact UVA is probably the only team clearly better in the ACC Coastal than Miami, meaning that running the table something I never would have imagined in the past is not out of the question.

I had projected another 5-7 season for Miami before the the year began. That looked like an optimistic "homer" prediction after five games.

But this group of kids has grown and the upperclassmen led by Sam Shields and Lovon Ponder made some huge plays today. Canes Football is officially headed in the right direction and those "haters" that earlier in the year pillaged this site and our editorials in favor of Randy Shannon and Patrick Nix now have to admit patience paid off.

The character of the Canes is indisputable. The bad apples have left the program: they either exhausted their eligibility or were kicked off the team at the end of last year. Watching these kids grow and develop as the year went on has been as rewarding as the Canes revival in 1998 was under Butch Davis. If this team ends up as Seniors where that team did, we are at the dawn of a new era of dominance for Miami Football.

I'm in Orlando on business and may not get to more of my thoughts until tomorrow, so have it at Canes Rising readers!
