By Kartik Krishnaiyer

1- North Carolina
2- Florida State
3- Wake Forest
4- Maryland
5- Georgia Tech
6- Miami
7- Virginia
8- Virginia Tech
9- Boston College
10- Duke
11- NC State
12- Clemson

Thoughts:

  • North Carolina has separated itself from the ACC pack with three of the better nonleague wins the ACC has all season (@ Rutgers, Notre Dame, @ U Conn) and an explosive offense being directed by Cam Sexton a third string QB.
  • Florida State has the most talent in the league, but, as we discuss regularly, coaching issues hold the Noles back. So does discipline. This week several Florida State players were involved in an on campus altercation. Yet as of this writing no suspensions have been made. Once again Florida State shows a different standard for disciplining football players than other schools, and coming on the heels of an academic fraud scandal that involved over 30 football players, you would think FSU would be extra careful. If this had happened at Miami (which it will not under Randy Shannon), these kids would have been tossed out of school and ESPN would be calling for the Miami program to be dropped. How much longer can the media goodwill towards Bobby Bowden continue in spite of these embarrassments? Forever, it must be assumed.
  • Wake Forest seems to be struggling this year. More turnovers, more penalties and more struggles. Yet the Deacons continue to be one of the best teams in the league. Maybe it's time to admit that Wake not only wins because Jim Grobe is a great coach, but also because they actually do have some talent.
  • Boston College's offense continues to struggle in the post Matt Ryan era. The Eagles defense, despite shutting out Notre Dame, hasn't been great either. I'd be worried about BC winning again this year when you look at the closing schedule.
  • Tyrod Taylor's injury has ruined Virginia Tech's season. Chances are the Hokies are in control of the Coastal Division with a healthy Taylor.
  • Duke is missing one or two play makers. Should David Cutcliffe continue his insistence that he does not want the Tennessee job, and he does in fact stay at Duke, expect the Blue Devils to have some great talent within a few years.
  • Clemson's brief revival under Dabo Swinney has ended.
