- When Paul Johnson was hired by Georgia Tech I stated my belief that the Yellow Jackets would become the ACC's dominant team within three years. The early returns indicate that Tech is ahead of schedule.
- Clemson's loss at home to rival Georgia Tech, despite having the emotion of Dabo Swinney's ascension to Head Coach, leads me to believe the Tigers will mail it in for the season.
- I would not be too concerned by Virginia Tech's loss at Boston College. Since 2003, BC is 4-2 against the Hokies. That's more wins against the Hokies during the period than any other school.
- Duke's go-to receiver, Erron Riley, had a bad day Saturday in the loss to Miami. Riley was consistently open but had five drops; partly due to playing hurt. Duke moved the ball at will versus the Canes and had it not been for Riley's costly drops, the Blue Devils could have pushed the Canes to the death.
- Sam Swank returns this week for Wake and he is sorely needed. Without Swank against Clemson and Maryland, the Deacons were constantly losing the field position battle. In addition, they could not kick field goals when in scoring position.
- North Carolina's injuries are starting to pile up and despite redeeming the conferences reputation with three important non conference wins, the Tar Heels may struggle from here on out to even be a factor in the league race.
- Al Groh has already exceeded the expectations from Athlon's ACC Football Preview by three wins. The publication had the Cavs going 1-11, with a lone win against Richmond. Coach of the year, anyone?
