Unforgivable

Urban Meyer and the Florida Gators have committed an unforgivable sin. In their zeal to prove they are the top program in the state and have overturned the long time college football pecking order they have paid the ultimate disrespect to the "U," much as they did to Florida State a year ago. Attempts to run up the score by Meyer have now become commonplace. and it becomes even more interesting that the late FG allowed Florida to cover the spread. Florida's rich boosters that think they are entitled to run the state of Florida, not simply from a Football standpoint but from a societal perspective as well probably had lots of money tied up on this game. Perhaps Urban Meyer does not know the history of the institution that employs him currently, the school that gave us the "Quarterback club" and Teddy Dupay shouldn't be frantic to cover a point spread late in a rivalry game.

Let me be perfectly frank: Miami had an opportunity twice to similarly run up the score on Florida this decade and passed. In both the 2001 Sugar Bowl and the 2002 trip to Gainesville, Miami ran simple running plays into the line of scrimmage to not further embarrass a beaten down Florida team. The truth is those two games were both more competitive than Saturday's matchup where Miami never crossed the Florida 30 yard line.

Florida thinks they are a big fish in the large pond of College Football. But in reality Florida is a historic minnow. Florida won its first official conference title in 1991, the same year as Miami. But it was Miami's first season in a conference while it was Florida's 49th! (Florida was the last original, continues member of the SEC to win a league title) Florida first played for a national title after 1995 season. At the time Miami had entered the New Year's bowls with an opportunity to win the National Championship eight times! With regards to Florida's other in-state rival, Florida State, it took them almost half the time to win a national title than it did Florida, winning a title in only the schools 53rd season of D1 football as opposed to Florida who took 90 seasons to win a title.

When a minnow insults a big fish consequences must ensue. I for one have been put out that unlike Ohio State and Oklahoma, bigger schools in the historic college football pecking order than Florida could ever hope to be have given Miami quick return games after the front end of home and home series. Yet Florida, in their arrogance and desire to play the softest possible non league schedule is not giving Miami a return game for five seasons! Now if Ohio State who has scheduled home and home series with likes of USC and Texas in recent years can work out a return trip to Miami the very next year after the matchup in Columbus, why must Florida wait five years?

I believe Miami should back out of the second game against Florida in this home and home series unless the Gators agree to play before 2012 at Dolphin Stadium. Secondly, Miami should demand an apology from Urban Meyer for his actions. It doesn't help his team when he keeps his first team in a blowout game. Had Meyer been facing Florida State I guarantee he would have taken Tebow out: After FSU does have a history of curious personal foul penalties against Florida's stars. Perhaps Miami is so soft and neutered under Randy Shannon that bullies like Meyer think they can insult Miami and push these sorts of buttons?

This is the time for the Miami program to prove it hasn't gone soft. Miami has more conference and national titles than Florida and leads the all time series between the schools. Time for Florida to learn the consequences of their bullying actions. The minnow must be put back in place: move the next game up, issue an apology or the series is gone, forever. Or perhaps my proposal rewards bad behavior because we all know that Florida has since 1987 found one excuse after another not to play Miami. So maybe Urban Meyer decided to run up the score to accomplish more than one goal? Maybe that's the bottom line.

WAH WAH!

Shannon is soft and so are you?

Who is the real minnow, a team that won the title two years ago or a team that had a losing record last year?

FK OFF!

I knew there was something fishy when Randy Shannon barely touched Urban's hand after the game and headed the other direction. He knew he ran up the score. After all, there were lots of recruits there and he had to impress. I don't know about the booster and betting deals, but that would not surprise me. I prefer to take it as a recruiting tool, but that's just my opinion.

Urban should be thankful the refs turned the game around with the bs incompletion they overturned. Maybe that was why the fans were shouting "SEC" at the end .........

Just wait till you come to Tally this year and we turn the tables on you Gaturds!

Didn't Shane Matthews bet on games at Florida?

I am not so much worried about recruits. The did not embarrass themselves. If anything snake Meyer did. Coach Shannon and his staff fully understand how to recruit and they have a much easier road ahead than the Gators. Redemption will be available as long as they continue to work hard. A lot of good player will always want to be a part of the U. The team is going in the right direction. The best chance for a National Championship exist in the ACC. Not the SEC.

I'm convinced Meyer had money on the Gators to cover. Wasn't the line -21.5? There was no reason to kick a FG when you're up by 20 with less than a minute left. Either take a knee or run a fullback blast right up the middle...

As you pointed out, we didn't do this to them when we had the chance!

If UM is going to leave their 1st string defense in and continue to bring high pressure and blitzes, I want us to continue to match their intensity and play full force on offense. Otherwise, the backup guys, who aren't as "trained up" as the starters, end up getting overwhelmed.

Now, if UM has put in the 3rd team, or UF is playing some D-II team that can't line up with us, then yeah, we need to back off and put in the scrubs.

But, if UM is going to bring the same defense that held us to 9 points over 3 quarters, we HAVE to run our offense at top efficiency in order to counter them.

As for taking the three points, well, as was said, a new kicker needed some game experience, and his snapper, holder and blockers did too.

Sorry UM fans, stuff happens sometimes. We really were not running up the score. If this was as blatant as you claim then I would say, "yeah Urban screwed up." But it wasn't.

The FG did not matter, the gators made the plays and got the breaks needed to win. What UiF fans need to be concerned with is hoping that the teams don't meet in a bowl game this year because the result would not be the same.

I dunno. I disagree with most of the responses in this discussion. To me, one of the most disrespectful things you could do, is to go easy on a team to not beat them too bad. I mean unless you are up 50 to zip. Bringing your A game to every snap shows that you have respect for the other team and that you aren't gonna dilly dally on the field.

Leeh... The game was already decided. All Myer had to do is run the ball 3 times and then take a knee. That way no one can get hurt. The Canes of Old would of slammed Tebow to the ground with a personal foul, but Shannon has corrected that. These win and loose with Dignity and Pride. And Shannon will never forget Urban's action. Every Pig has his christmas eves, Urban's is coming.

So what the gators are saying about the fear factor is we beat them 4 time since 2000 and we are rebuilding this year. They got a victory on us so it's now over. We still own them by two games (28-26). Before 2000 the gators owned the series by 1 game (25-24). This is the tightest series Florida and Miami have. If UF ain't afraid of Miami then UF should have no problem playing us for 3 times and taking over the series (29-28). Florida should have no problem beating us in 2009, 2010 and 2011. I think it will be a breeze because this years Miami team will be far better then 2009, 2010 and 2011 will ever be. I like to agree with these gator fans because they will actually believe me. But the real truth is you got a win over Miami who will be better next year, so take the win and pray that we don't meet until 2031 so you can say Miami ain't beat us in 23 years or not since 2008. Go play hide n seek while we play football. Most Gator fans here say we will be good next year. I'll take their word for it...

keep saying that UF's offense will win battles not wars. Tebow is to tough to slide and Mullen is to Dumb to stop calling draws for him. And when they play a team Like UGA and lose...They have only Meyer and Mullen to blame. Tebow Can not go all year taking hits like he did last night and survive the whole season. i.e last year.
But I guess time will tell.

The bottom line is this:

Florida has a fan base that for years has been envious bordering on violently upset at playing second or third fiddle to both the Canes and Noles.

Anytime Florida regardless of whether it is Charley Pell, Steve Spurrier or Urban Liar have an opportunity to rub it in to FSU or Miami they do it.

I'm proud the Canes didn't break entirely and give up a bunch more points.

Florida will never have what Miami and FSU once had. A respectful rivalry with anyone that determined national champions. Florida's alumni base is full of self important people who cannot accept to this day that a small private school and a girls school have won more than they have. It is as simple as that.

With Georgia down and Tennessee horrific, South Carolina in the SEC sh*t pile, the turds will probably win the sec east, but go down to LSU in the championship game: I'd love to have a rematch this year when our youngsters are a little more seasoned in a bowl game. The turds will not be in any national championship game after FSU beats them.

Reversing the roles, I'm sure UF fans wouldnt of appreciated the FG and it wouldnt matter about a new FG kicker etc. If it happens (and it might)it will be interesting to see whats being said. Its part of the game when Urban calls a timeout riiiggghhhttt before a kicker kicks and its perfectly fine and acceptable (even though I've yet to see anyone else do it). Yet when someone scores a TD and the whole team celebrates (UGA) its defined as dirty, low and completely out of line. (Even though part of scoring is celebration) Excessive? Sure, but it didnt effect anything, except the great field position for UF after the fact (Not that it helped in the end)...

how could Meyer!

How could he let his first teamers get as much practice against blitzes they will see the rest year! how dare he use as much game time as possible before a bye week! how dare he let his kicker get some work! so evil, so despicable...coaches need to care about the other side! not what they feel is most important for their team!

By the way as a UF grad yourself this sort of post is in some folks books punishable by death. Would you prefer hanging or lethal injection. (Just joking but some Gator alumni have taken note of your hostility to Florida the last few weeks and are none too pleased.)
