Canes Need to Take Baby Steps

Miami's fans never lack bravado. I'm reading message board posts that Miami will crush Texas A&M today in College Station. Quite frankly, I think the most likely result is the opposite: The Aggies bomb the Canes. Miami fans have to be realistic. This is a young team that has been dealt a very tough schedule by the genius of former AD Paul Dee. I'm not looking for a win today: obviously I'd take one but coming off an embarrassing offensive performance against an average at best Florida defense, and sporting a five game losing streak to FBS opponents and having not won what I would call a true road game since 2005, Miami's fans need to be patient.

A&M may or may not have Stephen McGhee today. That probably won't matter because his backup threw for 3 TDs at New Mexico two weeks ago. The Lobos were in a bowl game last year which is more than we can say for Miami. Another statistic for you: Miami has not won a road non conference game against a non current ACC member in a BCS league since 2002. Yes, you read that right. The one time motto of anytime, anyplace, has given way to "we'll give you a gimme in front of your home fans." Randy Shannon will change that neutered scared Cane mentality that took hold under Larry Coker, but it will not be today. But what does need to happen today is that the Canes cannot get blown out by Mike Sherman's new look Aggies. They need to hang in the game and they cannot collapse in the 4th quarter as they have so many times in the last three seasons on the road.
