Marve Suspended

Robert Marve has been suspended for Thursday's season opener against Charleston Southern according to multiple media reports and a Canes Rising source. Jacory Harris and Cannon Smith have both been getting first team reps this week I was told and the assumption is Harris will start Thursday with Smith serving as his backup.

Kartik, why report rumors. I've heard nothing of the sort.

Totally not true, rumor mongering by you.

if you want to become a gossip site some of us will stop coming.

Another Thug and THUG U?

Say it isn't so!

owe u an apology, k.

see it reported all over now.

u had it earlier because as a blogger i guess u can take one source and run with it.

My source says he was suspended during the week by Shannon but that it was not released until today.

What a way to start the season. I guess it Jacory and Cannon for the U. That's fine with me. I have no preference as far as the QBs go.

Anyone who thinks this is a big deal is a moron. Let Harris get the starting reps to get his confidence up. Let Mavre start the UF game and keep him on a tight leash. That UF defense is all banged up. Just keep it close, don't turn it over, and try to steal one. The overreaction to this news is embarrassing.

CANNON SMITH TIME!

I think they should of just made Marve run until he passed out during the fall as form of punishment for this. I'm not all that upset that he is going to miss the Charleston Southern game, I'm more upset at the fact that since he is going to miss that game he won't be able to play against Florida. Don't get me wrong I like Jacory a lot but Marve has just been the best QB so far. I like where Randy is coming from but he needs to realize that another 5-7 season and he'll be looking for new work.

This is just like last year. Unexpected quaterback will start the first game. Some where in the season the other quaterback will step in because quaterback number one was not able to handle the job. It's Dejavu all over again. I don't think Shannon wants to keep his job.

KARTIK YOU REALIZE YOU HAVE THE STORY WRONG! THE HERALD SAYS THIS IS RELATED TO LAST YEAR'S ARREST NOT TO PROBATION AS YOU AND THE SCHMUK SHANDEL RICHARDSON CLAIM!

Again, much remains to be seen about Shannon and the jury is still out. If anything, blame that part on Miami for not hiring a more experienced and proven coach. That's not Shannon's fault.

I'd just like to feel as if he has authority and confidence in managing and leading his team and sometimes I don't feel that yet. How you handle PR is part of that in my opinion. As a Gator fan though I must admit Shannon's rules and discipline are to be commended.

If Miami goes loses 6 games Shannon is going to be in a big trouble. Next year, would be make or break for him then.

Marve has to grow up. Why are we assuming this stems from last year's incident based on one report?

I think more is going to come out tomorrow about this. I also think Harris will start and should start. He's obviously more mature.

It's going to be a long season. We knew that already but the one real hope we had is now gone. Not good at all.

The mass hysteria here is almost comical.

We've never seen this guy play EVER other than in the spring game. Why is everyone calling for Shannon's head based on this?

If Marve continues to get in trouble he should eventually be sent packing.

This is the worst possible news coming into the year.

Expect an official announcement tomorrow per the Herald and Sun Sentinel.

Thanks Kartik for reporting old bad news. Any of us can go to the Herald and find out what is happening. You broke the story around the same time they did but did not get the facts right.

Tomorrow the hammer is going to fall on this team.

hey soccer man of course u gaturds like shannons rules because it means half the team will be suspended or kicked out for the match against u turds.

K, you know what I would like from you?

An analysis of the QB position and what the guys can do. Your knowledge of football even when you are cynical and ripping the Canes far exceeds the tools who write for the papers. You and Canes 305 are my sources for real analysis.

So Marve is out. Let's talk about the other guys we have.

DA U

Thanks for the request and will work on such a piece in the next few days.

THIS GUYS RULES AND LACK OF CONSISTENCY IS KILLING US. FIRE HIM NOW!

HEY COKER WON A TITLE. SHANNON BARELY BEAT FIU.

BRING BACK COKER THE JOKER.

This is what happens when you hire Shannon. I mean I thought he was the wrong hire in the 1st place like many fans did. He is simply a control freak whose rules are killing the programs identity even more than Coker indifference to discipline did. We went from one extreme to another.

I get it. We want to be like Bowden who won't suspend guys when the break rules or break the law? Come on, you sound like a fool to say that.

You know those 13 straight years of putting guys in the first round of the NFL??? Most of those came from Shannon's defense. He pretty much had a top 10 defense every single year. What exactly should be blamed on him other than maybe the way last year finished?? So he can discipline his players and coach them as well.

Who cares. Jacory and the Northwestern boys are going to be the ones who lead us back to the top. The idea of some punk starting ahead of me didn't sit well with me.

From the PB Post:

The suspension is the result of Robert Marve's arrest last October in Coconut Grove when he was charged with two misdemeanors - resisting arrest without violence and criminal mischief - after he punched and broke a car mirror then tried to elude police by running away.

So your initial reporting was wrong about Marve getting in trouble again. In other words Shannon is making the kid pay time for something he already paid time for. The family is upset by this and who knows where the fallout ends because Shannon as everyone says takes these rules to an excess.

From the Post:

That was followed by the incident last Halloween night when Marve was arrested. Charges were dropped earlier this year.

At the time, Shannon said no action would be taken against Marve.

"Sometimes I think what we do is just throw kids to the wolves instead of helping them out," Shannon said. "We're going to help the kid out."

IN OTHER WORDS HE LIED BECAUSE HIS AUTHORITY COMES FROM SUSPENDING GUYS AND SCARING THEM AND THROWING GUYS OFF THE TEAM FOR NO REASON.

THESE ARE KIDS. THEY MAKE MISTAKES. SHANNON DOES NOT BELOWN IN COACHING.

Marve deserves to be suspended for what he did, but Shannon horribly mishandled this by not telling him sooner. This incident happened last October. The way every other coach in America handles these issues is by announcing the suspension in the spring or early in fall camp. You don't wait until less than one week before the game to pull the rug out from under the kid.

Shannon completely blindsided Marve after giving him no indication over the past 10 months that he was going to miss a game.

This is yet further proof that Shannon has no idea how the hell to run a football team. Hopefully, the new AD will pull the plug on the Randy Shannon Experiment at the end of the season and spare us all further agony.

A source close to the Hurricanes and the Alumni Office tells me that Shannon had no say in the suspension.

It stems from Marve not meeting what the County Courthouse wanted him to do in lieu of probation.

Since he didn't, it was taken to the higher-ups in the Athletics Department and administration.

People here have to get their facts straight before they talk.

Kartik was spot on with his report.

Everyone else is just speculating as to what's happening. ... Idiots.

Harris is a winner and now that's he is starting expect him to be UMs QB for the next four years. Cannon Smith will be an able backup and Marve will transfer and have a poor college career. You heard it hear first.
