Quick Thoughts About the Bowls

  • The surest sign of how hokey the BCS is: A new logo for the BCS because of the switch of TV contracts from ABC to Fox.
  • Speaking of Fox, Charles Davis who is jack of all trades when it comes to sportscasting (he works for TBS, the NFL Network, the Golf Channel, and Sun Sports, and used to do College Basketball on CBS and Arena Football on NBC) is far superior as an analyst to anyone ESPN/ABC currently uses.
  • Boise State beating Oklahoma was probably the best result for the future of College Football in years. What a great and gutsy performance by the Broncos. BSU deserves a shot at Florida or USC if for no other reason than to see how contrasting styles match up, and to find out whether mid major conferences can produce national championship quality teams. Boise State has won more games than any other program in the nation this decade and they deserve their due as does their conference.
  • The WAC should be proud. They were a great individual performance by Kirby Freeman (a performance tinged with lots of luck) away from being 4-0 in the bowls. For what its worth Nevada proved they were far superior to Miami on the field even if the scoreboard lied about the better team. Let's call the WAC 4-0 for our purposes of argument about why the BCS has to go. (more on that in a day or two)
  • I wouldn't read too much into the results of some bowls. Proponents of Ohio State and Michigan are pointing to the two Big Ten wins against the SEC. Florida fans are saying Michigan lost to USC, but historically teams that get passed over to play in title games typically underperforming terribly in their bowl games. As far as the two SEC losses were concerned, Arkansas was an unworthy representative of the SEC, and Tennessee simply isn't very good. Both Big Ten representatives were far superior even if the rankings said the Vols were better than Penn State.
  • Back to the Nevada/Miami game for a minute. I have replayed the game in my mind and have determined that if Kyle Wright had started for Miami, Nevada would have won 34-7 with the same exact calls on each play for both teams. The two plays deep in Miami territory where Kirby Freeman escaped the rush and threw the ball downfield (both led to TDs, one on the particular play, one later in the drive) would have been turnovers had Wright started and would have turned into short, easy TD drives for Nevada. Yet many Miami fans continue to believe the 5 year old hype about Wright and feel he should start next season. Any wonder why so many opposing fans hate Miami's fans?
  • I can't wait to see Bill Callahan's poor play calling mixed with an underperforming QB in Sam Keller next year. Nebraska could be a train wreck waiting to happen!

You cannot get thru one of these summary columns without taking subtle backhanded shots at Miami. You've been doing it for two years and it is just pathetic. It's funny how whenever FSU wins they have superior talent and when they lose its unlucky, but if Miami wins they are lucky, and if they lose they suck. You want Freeman because you know Wright will be uncokerized and be like Carson Palmer next year..... And you call yourself a Canes fan? Get over it NOLEBOY!

I totally agree about the WAC and the Boise State. The fact is these WAC offenses get panned by SEC and Big Ten fans but they are very difficult to stop. Oklahoma had a very good team that really only lost one game, since their other loss was due to the PAC 10 officials who were fired after the game for blowing two huge calls. Also OU played about as well as naybody in the country after mid October. The fact that they couldn't stop Boise State says a lot. Your point is well taken on Nevada and Miami as well. Nevada gained more yards against Miami than any other team Miami played this year. Considering Miami lost 6 games, that's pretty darn good.

Hey Michigan...while you are on your flight back to Ann Arbor, why don't you reflect on your piece of crap showing in the Rose Bowl. You still think you deserve to be in the National Championship game? I wish you would have played Boise State and they would have rammed it down your sorry ass throat! You still want to call hime Urban "Crier"?

Just don't forget, you can't spell Lloyd without 2 "L's"

God Bless

I do agree that Kartik is a closet Noles fan and a guilty Gator/Cane fan. He feels guilty that Miami beat FSU whenever it's mattered so he slams Miami to make the FSU fans who read this site feel good. I know he really does not believe all the shots he takes at Miami and all the good things he says about FSU.

I meant to say K acts like an FSU fan. He is a UF grad and goes to all the Canes game. By definition he should be very anti Nole.

On the flip side, all of you anonymous posters, he's being a good journalist by putting his personal feelings aside and reporting the good of FSU.

Jesus, why does everything on this site have to be so black and white with some of these readers?
