Graig Cooper Recommits to Miami

A month ago after the firing of Larry Coker, We had discussed the decommitment of Graig Cooper as a tremendous blow to Miami's program. Yesterday, following the MPC Computers Bowl and an earlier visit by New Head Coach Randy Shannon, Cooper considered by many recruiting experts as the nation's top available RB recommitted to Miami according to Rivals.com. Cooper had signed with Miami last Spring but failed to qualify for admission and went to Prep School instead.

While most recruiting in my mind is overblown, this particular recruit is not. Larry Coker signed Cooper last year out of Memphis specifically because he knew he needed a Devin Hester type kick returner to fill the void in Miami's return game. Cooper's failure to qualify and Miami's subsequent shuffling of below average returners caused The Canes the opportunity to win several games this season. Cooper will have an immediate impact on the Special Teams and could push Javarris James for playing time at Tailback.

Damn! I thought we had a shot at him. He visited Gainesville the weekend after the SEC title game and enjoyed himself. If true, a big signing for Miami. He is the playmaker they have been missing since Hester went to the NFL. Do you have a link?
