The most heralded QB recruit in University of Florida history (sorry Bobby Sablehaus) completed his college career as a national champion. Ever since we launched this site almost two years ago Leak has been called every name in the book and has had his performances dissected every which way. Well after tonight's masterful performance in Glendale, Chris Leak will forever be a champion, regardless of how much abuse Gator fans and media gave him throughout the past four years.
OTHER THOUGHTS:
- People aren't giving Charlie Strong enough credit for the job he's done as a top defensive coordinator now for many years both with South Carolina and Florida. It's about time some program give him the shot at being a Head Coach, a shot that is long overdue.
- I didn't realize Troy Smith idolized Reggie Ball. Smith was a perfect cross between Ball, Kyle Wright and Scott Frost tonight.
- Smith joins the long list of Heisman Trophy big game failures that was on the blog yesterday. Smith's performance would make Eric Crouch proud. (Jon Vilma and Brandon Siler should compare notes about how it feels to level a Heisman Trophy winning hotshot QB in a national title game!)
- Harvey, Nelson, McDonald, Siler, Everett, Smith, Lewis, etc, etc. Miami fans brag about the defenses they have had, but this defense could be the best ever at a Florida school and probably will have more good pro players than any Miami defense EVER had. (Miami has had more defensive busts in the NFL first round than all other school combined. Remember Bill Hawkins, Winston Moss and Greg Mark? Then again Florida gave us Clifford Charlton and Huey Richardson.)
- The SEC and Pac Ten are the two best leagues in America with the most speed. Funny, they are possibly the two best Basketball leagues also.
- DeShawn Wynn was finally used properly today. Urban Meyer and Dan Mullen proved with a month to prepare they can out gameplan anybody.
- I miss Keith Jackson. I'm sorry but I thought I was watching some boring Baseball game with Thom Brenhamann out there. Charles Davis and Barry Alvarez did well though.
- The Gators have a shot to repeat next year, but Southern Cal will be preseason #1. Other teams that have a shot next year are West Virginia, Ohio State, Texas, Hawaii (yes, Hawaii can be next year's Boise State), Nevada (see Hawaii), Oklahoma, LSU, and yes Florida State who returns a boatload of talent and finally may have competent coaching to actually nurture the talent in Tallahassee. Miami could be contend for the ACc crown if they finally send Kyle Wright to Siberia where he belongs, or could be worse than Duke if they give the California prodigy one more turn at the wheel. Miami's defense is very good, but heck they probably had the nation's second best D this year, behind Florida and yet they lost five more games than the Gators. That's what happens if you are ranked #97 in total offense. South Florida will be a threat to win the Big East with West Virginia and Louisville coming to Tampa. Matt Grothe will be one of the best players in the nation next year.

Kartik should resign also. Didn't he say Nevada would hang 60 on Miami? He went on and on about the pistol offense and how it was unstoppable. I'm not sure if I saw the game right but I think Miami won. Kartik is nothing but a closet Nole lover. I hope his garnet and gold shopping went well tonight. He needs to burn all his Gator and Cane apparel because he is traitor to the Gator Nation and the Hurricane Family. He is NOLEBOY from now on.
Jim Rome should take over the blog. Kick Gregg and NOLEBOY off!
I agree with the posters above. The Gators have always been the best team in the state because the fact is we always played killer schedules while FSU played one or two tough games a year and Miami played maybe three or four. The racial stuff I don't want to touch other than to say Miami turned down some really qualified guys interested in the job because they were white and the left wing do gooder president there wanted a black coach.
I dont care what race a coach is. His skin color doesnt win or lose a game. However hiring someone based on that factor alone is NAACP bullshit. The best person for the job is the person that should be hired. If you want equality and want me to close my eyes to see everyone the same way, then remove race as a factor!
Unfortunately, Randy Shannon wasnt the best person for the job. He was simply the closest person. I dont believe Miami wanted to spend any money to perform a national search or to pay the price of relocation for a top-notch big name candidate.
Only time will tell, but Miami's resources are shrinking and with the caliber of play over the past few seasons, its not like the cofers are going to fill back up anytime soon.
Atleast the boosters didnt have to pony up $500,000 to buy coker out.
WHERE IS THE APOLOGY FROM YOU BLOGGERS?
ALL THOSE ANTI-FLORIDA COMMENTS...
WHY DONT YOU MAN UP AND ADMIT YOU WERE DEAD WRONG ABOUT FLORIDA!
ADMIT AT A FRICKING MINIMUM THAT YOU WERE IN AWE AS FLORIDA BEAT OSU'S ASS IN FRONT OF A NATIONAL AUDIENCE.
The CRIMINOLES and the COCANES will never rise again. Look at the COCANES schedule next year. Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Va Tech all on the road! They will be lucky to win 3 games. FSU is just poor and they are going to have to strain themselves to score against Wake next year!
Wait ... you guys realize Chris Leak is black, right? I mean, I know he's light-skinned and all, but...
You guys are absolutely aweful. You Gator fans are an embarassment to the team with all the racial slurs and rotten language you use. I dislike Miami and primarily hate FSU for their inappropriate behavior as student athletes, but that's no excuse for harboring racist feelings, especially since all but 3 or 4 of Florida Gator starters are black including Leak. The Gators are legitimate champs winning the toughest canference and beating a once thought unbeatable Buckeye squad. Florida Gators control the recruiting base in the south and need not fear competition from FSU or Miami.
As for you who are continuously bantering racist remarks, if you don't like the preferred treatment that blacks and other minorities are getting the solution is simple: cut the racist attitude. Until racism subsides by about 90% of U.S population, minorities will always get preferential treatment. It really is time to stop acting immature and hateful, but rather rejoice and enjoy in the positive blessings you receive rather than dwell on negativity.
Gators own florida: you really need to back off b/c you're a disusting embarassment to the University of Florida and its fan base; more importantly you're a sickening example of pathetic as a representative of not only white people, but the human race in general.
FYI, not only am I a Gator fan, but I am a white person as well. Respond in calling me a liar if you wish, but your negligence will only further prove my point that you hateful, racist, and inappropriate fools (wheather black or white) are mindless idiots merely capable of repeating the opinions of someone you heard on ESPN.
Hello gator fans, did you guys actually go to college or did you get your degrees from david DUKE university. Florida has lost the last six times it's played Miami, no wonder they don't do that anymore.
Have a very nice day and say hello to
all your cousins in Mississippi.
Bobby Sabelhaus was the greatest QB recruit to never see the field. He had all the tools to be the best UF had ever seen. Too bad Spurrier was responsible for spinning his career out of control. 6'5", 235lbs...what a shame.
