LSU's Behavior a Disgrace

Florida and Arkansas face off for an SEC Title tomorrow night in Atlanta. But instead of focusing on the two teams that earned the right to represent their divisions in the title game, the media and bowl reps have been focused on LSU: who finished behind Arkansas in the SEC West and lost in decisive fashion to Florida.

The decision by LSU's ticket office to sell Rose Bowl tickets this week and now very public lobbying of politicians in the state led by Gov Kathleen Babineux Blanco (D) of Katrina bungling fame is a complete disgrace to the sport of College Football. LSU is trying to prove to Bowl officials that they would "travel better" than Arkansas or Florida and thus deserve a spot in a BCS bowl.

As has been the case since I began following College Football a quarter of a century ago, LSU fans who have basically seen their team win very little through the years have a sense of entitlement and arrogance that needs to be shut down. It is critical that the SEC office call off LSU and ask the BCS to invite the loser of the title game over the out of control and undeservingTigers. Failure by the SEC to do so will make the conference's regular season less meaningful than it should be in the future, set a precedent that any school can brow beat Bowl officials into hiring them, and further damage the credibility of an already flawed BCS process.

More good news for the BC Mess.

There is no defending the BCS, but if the Gators defeat Arkansas in a convincing fashion, then I don't see why LSU wouldn't be a legitimate choice for a BCS bowl.

Personally, I think LSU has the best individual talent in the NCAA, they just have problems making mistakes and playing as a team. Stop bitchcing and just let things play out. Kathleen Blank-O should draw a picture of herself and put it on a dart board. She has done a wonderful job with New Orleans.

Senor kartik,

I went to a Gator game at LSU once and will never go back. That place scares me more than Liberty City or Overtown. You would be wise not to make them mad.

In the longer perspective, how many SEC titles did Florida win before Steve Spurrier and how many after? In my day, Florida was an easy win and was the only team to have NEVER won the SEC. I think the entitlement and arrogance factor is in overdrive at UF.

wow....LSU played 4 away games this season....all vs. top 10 ranked schools, and went 2-2 in those games (would have been 3-1 if the SEC's refs knew the rules). They finished with a 6 game winning streak (beating the #8 and #5 ranked teams in the country) and are currently ranked 5th in every poll.

Since 2000 they have won 2 SEC championships and 1 National championship....just what has Florida done in that time? 0 SEC 0 National

Finally LSU hasn't sold 1 ticket to the Rose Bowl, consequently they have had 40,000 rose bowl ticket REQUESTS.

Your quote: "As has been the case since I began following College Football a quarter of a century ago, LSU fans who have basically seen their team win very little through the years have a sense of entitlement and arrogance that needs to be shut down."

I found it interesting. You might want to compare Florida and LSU football histories before making a comment like that. Alabama, Georgia, LSU, and Tennessee MADE the SEC what it is today ... Not Florida. Florida had the 90's, and that's it.

There is ZERO precedent for the SEC championship game LOSER going to a BCS bowl. None. Why should Florida get special treatment?

Anonymous said...

LOL.

What's funny about this is that Florida was a disgrace to the SEC until the 90's and you Florida fans (that are under 30) think your program has history.

I guess they convienently left out the previous 90 years before 1990 out of the Gators record books.

You guys are "new money," nothing more.

By raising a stink about LSU in the Rose Bowl you are basically resigned to the Hogs beating you this weekend. Great work.

In addition, YOU are lobbying for a Florida Rose Bowl birth in case of a loss. So how does this make you any better then the much maligned LSU fans that want to go to the Rose Bowl. Are you Governor Blanco's lost Floridian cousin????

Funny how you don't say anything when it worked for Florida in 2001. UTenn vs LSU in the 2001 SECCG. Tenn was going to the National Championship game if they had won, but they lost and ended up in the Citrus Bowl. Florida benefited and ended up in the Orange Bowl.

As for Florida's "illustrious" history. ZERO SEC Titles before the 1990's. Last I checked, LSU had more SEC and National Championships.

Really. Tulane had more SEC titles than Florida before the 1990(which i'm sure is when you started following football) and during that time LSU was having some bad years. So there is basically 84 years of futility for the Gators before Spurrier. LSU's history since SOS left is also better with a 51-13 record, 1 SEC title, 1 MNC compared to Florida's 43-19. In the 1980s LSU also won 2 SEC titles compared to 0 for Florida(ok 2 they did win 2 that were stripped due to probation.) Also the loser of the SECCG getting shafted(LSU got the Peach last year) is nothing new whether that is fair or not. Actually, i will be pulling for you guys tomorrow, but in the words of the caveman on that Geico commercial, "Umm next time maybe do a little research?"

Your Gators have been on the SEC map only during Darth Visor's reign. Before that, zippo. Darth V has moved on to SoCarolina; meanwhile you've been Zooked and now Urbanized. LSU has a longer pedigree. In fact, at 10-2 and #5 in the BCS standings and polls, LSU has a really legit claim to the Rose, regardless of who wins the SECCG tomorrow. I expect the Gators will not be in the BCS hunt come Sunday unless you somehow manage to beat McFadden and the swarming Razorbacks. I think they win, 31-24.

Hi,

I have differ on some of the points that you have tried to make --- and this is why

1) LSU is yet to "sell" a single ticket to the Rose Bowl.

2) Most the LSU fans DO NOT like the idea of our Gov. lobbying for the Rose Bowl --- but we can't really do anything about it. Majority of the LSU fans+students don't even like her.

3) Even if we discount past record, LSU is #5 in BCS ranking (and I hope we become #4 after tomorrow after a Gator loss).

4) The SEC in general will get a lot of benefits in terms of money as well as exposure if LSU goes to the Rose bowl.

5) The SEC champion WILL play in Sugar bowl, which is not that bad --- it is true the looser will be shafted --- but that happens every year --- atleast this year a more deserving candidate in terms of ranking will get a shot.

6) No team has played in arguably the most prestigious bowl game for over half a century, now that we have a fair chance of achieving that, you think the media should not cover that? The media covers anything that will sell more --- now you decide why media is covering that.

7) Call us arrogant, or whatever you wish, the fact of the matter is we are definitely one of the better teams in SEC, we all know the looser of tomomrrows championship game has virtually no shot at a BCS bowl game, and we by the virtue of our recent success (and by recent I mean this season) have a good chance at a BCS game --- so what do you expect us to do --- sit back and do nothing? Remember after all we all belong to SEC, and like it or not --- somewhere our future are tied together.

Game set and fucking match. I'm giving 10 to 1 that this completely slipped this fuckhead's mind. Hahaha you went to a BCS Bowl game just five years ago despite losing the East to Tennessee and getting beat by them IN GAINESVILLE! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

1) Florida and Arkansas face off for an SEC Title tomorrow night in Atlanta. But instead of focusing on the two teams that earned the right to represent their divisions in the title game, the media and bowl reps have been focused on LSU
=====================================
Maybe that is because LSU is playing the best football right now. FLorida has been squeaking by lately.

2)The decision by LSU's ticket office to sell Rose Bowl tickets
==================================
There is a huge difference between ¨selling¨ and ¨taking reservations¨. Those same reservations will be used for the Orange, Sugar, or Cap One bowls should LSU end up there.

BTW Texas did the same thing 2 years ago to ensure that they were selected to the BCS over Cal.

Get a clue.

3) now very public lobbying of politicians in the state led by Gov Kathleen Babineux Blanco
==================================
Nobody asked Blanco to do this. IN fact, LSU hates Blanco, she is a ULL fan.

4) As has been the case since I began following College Football a quarter of a century ago, LSU fans who have basically seen their team win very little through the years have a sense of entitlement and arrogance that needs to be shut down.
=================================
Hmmmmmmm.......you simply haven´t been following football long enough to know that LSU was winning football games before Florida was even worth mentioning. LSU was the second team currently in the SEC to win the NC, in 1908 (Vanderbilt was first, in 1906, believe it or not).

LSU can claim up to 6 titles.......1908, 1935, 1936, 1958, 1959, 1962, and 2003.

Florida can claim 1, Arkansas can also claim 1.

5) It is critical that the SEC office call off LSU and ask the BCS to invite the loser of the title game over the out of control and undeservingTigers.
==================================
It has nothing to do with the SEC and everything to do with national rank.

You´ve been owned.

The loser of the SECCG never goes to a BCS bowl. Where was your outrage last year when LSU lost the SECCG and fell all the way to the Peach? As it stands, the only arrogance I see is yours. LSU has never won anything? Please check the UF history books. What happens when you remove the entries from 1990-1999? Give up? The answer is mediocrity. Most LSU fans, unlike yourself, pull for the conference in the post season. And, need I remind you, UF benefited from an LSU win over UT in the 2001 SECCG. In case you have forgotten, UF was invited to the Orange Bowl over a 1-loss UT team that beat you handily in the regular season. The only disgrace here is your blatant homerism.

Last season, a second SEC team did not go the BCS. LSU ended up where they ought to have been especially considering they had no business beating Auburn who missed 5 fgs mostly short in that game.

I do agree with you about 2001. Tennessee beat UF and played in the title game, yet they fell to the Peach Bowl or Citrus Bowl (IRC). LSU was a 3 loss league champ that year and the BCS was blown up that year because of Illinois winning the Big 10, and Nebraska making the BCS title game which was totally undeserved.

LSU beat Auburn in 1988 but following a 44-3 home loss to Miami (almost the exact same score, teams reversed as last year's peach bowl) and then got passed over for the Sugar Bowl by Auburn.

The system does not make sense, but I firmly believe LSU has no business in the BCS. They had their shot and could not win the games they needed to. The game against Arkansas, a manufactured rivalry since Ark. joined the SEC was a meaningless game in the SEC title picture.

LSU would be strong if we had a playoff, but we do not and both Arkansas and Florida have the better "body of work" and both deserve a BCS spot over LSU. While Ark. lost to Southern Cal, at least they played them......most SEC schools duck power teams from other BCS leagues.

What you don't just believe it, you FIRMLY believe it. Who can argue with that?

The games they needed to win were against two top ten teams in November. They had their shot and won the games they needed to. Other than the champions, it's conference standing that is meaningless. Ranking is everything. You're entire argument rests on deliberately forgetting this simple fact.

Win tonight or say goodbye to the BCS. But you can watch LSU play in the Rose either way. : )
