Spurrier Rumors Consuming Miami Coaching Search

The rumors that are flying all over the internet that Steve Spurrier has already accepted the Miami job is ridiculous. Spurrier is no doubt a top target of the Canes, and he is possibly the only target that is truly interested in the job, but expect Miami to make a strong run at Cam Cameron, Bob Bratkowski and maybe another NFL Offensive Coordinator before settling on Spurrier. While it is obvious that the Ole Ball Coach wants to bail on South Carolina since he has determined that a resurgent Florida and resurgent Tennessee ends any chance of an SEC title in the near future, he is not the only candidate. We will have full coverage of the Miami Coaching search on this site until it is settled.

I just spoke to one my good friends who is a big recruit right now. He talks to spurrier two to three times a week. He just told me that they are trying to work a deal with miami. He told me that the only coaches steve wants to bring with him are his son and the qb coach. Steve is going to call him as soon as he knows if hes going to um.

South Carolina just announced that Steve Spurrier and the University have signed a 5 year extension which keeps him at the school through 2016.

ESPN is reporting a Press Conference is scheduled for 2:00 PM out of Columbia. ESPN and ESPN News will have it live.

Sportsline is reporting Spurrier just took a dump and it looked like the "U".

"I'm not leaving [South Carolina] unless I get run off. This is where I plan to be hopefully for the next 5, 7, 8, years or whatever," [Spurrier] says.

Knowing the history of Spurrier, I can truly tell you I am not sure what he will do. He doesn't like to admit failure and I thought South Carolina was a good spot for him, but that was before probabtion, Urban Meyer taking UF to a new level (UF's defense is currently better than it ever was in the Spurrier years with Bates, Zook, Prewitt, Stoops and Hoke leading the D), back to back losses to Georgia and winless home slate in the SEC this year. I am beginning to think that the old ball coach just doesn't think he can win at South Carolina.

But Miami is an easy way out. Spurrier has to know that while Miami fans are all going ga ga over the prospect of him coming south, they also expect several MNC's out of him and that is unlikely to happen. I personally am not sure Miami can even compete for an ACC title anymore on a regular basis and I'll explain why in an article coming later this week.

Spurrier would be paid better at Miami, and the golfing is top notch in South Florida. That last part maybe a clincher if he is on the fence.

He's still coming!

Spurrier Still Likely Heading to Miami

Sources say South Carolina coach heading to Hurricanes

Nov. 19, 2006

Despite Steve Spurrier's denials today in his weekly teleconference, sources tell CSTV that he is still heading to the University of Miami to replace Larry Coker as head football coach. CSTV first reported the story last night on Gametracker Live and SEC Football Nation.

In his media teleconference this afternoon at 2:00 pm, Spurrier was repeatedly asked about the Miami job, and denied that he was a candidate. However, following multiple questions asking him if he is in interested in the Miami job, the coach never insisted he wasn't interested, but instead, tip-toed around the answer. I asked him to state that he is not interested in Miami and again, the coach failed to state that he is not interested. Spurrier also jokingly said that he hopes to be back at South Carolina next year, but that depends on the school's athletic director and president.

Despite Spurrier's denials, CSTV stands by its initial reporting and has, in fact, confirmed from yet an additional source very close to the situation that Spurrier to Miami is still likely to happen.

Spurrier is finishing up his 2nd season in Columbia, and owns a 13-10 record at USC.

This is exactly what we should expect given the circumstances, which are Coker is still officially the coach and the season is not over. Both Dee and Spurrier are technically correct. Look carefully at what they say and what they don't say. Spurrier says he is not a CANDIDATE, Dee concurs and then adds MAYBE a booster approached Spurrier in a non-official manner and MAYBE the U would have an "official" interest. This make everything we heard correct. Also note that Spurrier when pressed to come out and say he had no interest in Miami at all, would not. I am not saying he is coming, just trying to make some sense on these "conflicting" reports..........

Now a report from Scout.com is surfacing that South Carolina has violated major rules while already on probation. If that were the case, Spurrier to Miami is probably more than speculation and is a likelyhood. Spurrier is not hanging around Columbia if more Holtz era violations further push back his timeline for being competetive.

This is some crazy stuff. Fasten your seat belt and stay tuned!

I was out to dinner in Coral Gables this evening and saw Paul Dee. Ok, I admit I followed Dee to the Morrison's Cafeteria off of 17th street. He was up for his third helping of the meatloaf when his cell phone went off and it was the South Carolina AD Eric Hyman and Spurrier's agent. I wish I could've heard the conversation except I had explosive diahrea from the Beef Stroganoff.

Spurrier is going to Bama. Already was in Tuscolossa briefly this week.

He is 100% bailing on South Carolina. The question now is whether Bama or Miami wins the sweepstakes.

Expect Spurrier to be named Bama coach next Monday.

Dear Jim Rome,

Please keep the negative comments to yourself during the holiday season. Let's try to give warm wishes to all around this glorious season. Even bumbaclots like yourself could use a hug.

God Bless

Here is the latest from our little corner of the world:

Source A: From inside U of So Car athletic department:
Spurrier has not spoken directly with Ath. Staff at UM but there has been contact from UM to SC Ath. Dept. to issue interests in him. Spurrier does seem to like USC but has been extremely frustrated with player discipline and character. He is working on that and he feels this incoming group of players will more closely resemble his type of player. However he will listen to the UM and will consider it once and if specific offers, $, etc is issued. He misses Florida and so does his wife.

Source B: Spurrier in talks with Miami but from what I was told USC is scrambling to make a counter offer in the $2.8- $3 million range to keep him at USC. Money will not be an issue as he recently turned down an offer of more money from USC. Steve feels that Miami would be an easier job of rebuilding and be in the hunt for National Championship within 2 years.

Rumblings coming out of some improprieties within the USC football program yet again, mostly pre-dating Spurrier. Atleast 1 current USC commit from North Carolina who I shall not name family was given money by a USC booster along with a few other violations.

Rumor has it that the "minister" was never ordained and is lying to his congregation. He is using his ministry as a front for prostitution and money laundering, just like Sunglass Hut.

People, dont be fooled by his "blessings." He is rumored to have received oral pleasures while driving at a high rate of speed. Something that the Vatican, although very jealous, does not approve of.

He is also the biggest "pound for pound" Roy Jones "I dont gotta fight real contenders" Junior's towel boy.

Let this serve as a lesson that money and loose women will make the "minister" very happy!

Keep dreaming! Spurrier is staying put!

I must admit... The reasons listed here for Spurrier's departure from SC are pretty amusing. I especially enjoyed the one about S. Florida's "top notch" golfing being a clincher. It seems to me that a man with a multi-million dollar contract could afford to fly wherever he wanted to play a round of golf.

Even the posts citing actual sources (CSTV) don't hold water, because those same sources no longer even list Spurrier as a possibility for the Miami job:

Here's a CSTV article from November 30th.

He has a good thing going in SC and it's only going to get better... a prospect that seems to scare the hell out of the other programs.
