For the second straight week, Miami absolutely demolished its opposition in the final three quarters, leaving its opponent with under 50 yards of total offense in the 2nd half and controlling the clock on the ground picking up first down after first down. And for the second straight week, Miami did the impossible: they lost a game late that they had dominated. Call it "Cokerization." The entire Miami team lacking confidence has been Cokerized. That's why Ryan Hill dropped a perfectly thrown ball in the endzone midway through the 4th QTR for what would have been the game winning touchdown. That's why Ryan Moore dropped an earlier touchdown when he got 5 yards behind a defender and just had to park himself and catch a spectacular throw from Kirby Freeman. That's why Bruce Johnson fumbled a punt after Miami got the ball back after a defensive stand. That's why Miami after running the option successfully stopped calling option plays in the 4th quarter and reverted to the pro style offense which we have seen all year does not work with this personnel! (Do you know how awesome it was to see Miami of all teams running the option?!) Call it Cokerization.
Miami and their new QB, Kirby Freeman lost again, but at least they went down fighting, even if they should have won easily. Florida State on the other hand is a total disgrace, a complete waste of talent. I will maintain what I said before the season. Very few teams in the nation have the level of talent on both sides of the ball that Florida State does. (including Florida, who is on the verge of a national title with LESS TALENT THAN A 5-5 FSU TEAM) Bobby Bowden has long ago lost this team and as much as I dislike the coaching job Larry Coker is doing, at least his players haven't quit on him (even though they have been "Cokerized"). Bowden's players have quit. I don't care about national rankings.....nobody in a million years is going to convince me that Wake Forest has even half the talent that Florida State does. Tonight's performance was a total disgrace, but what was worse is that Bobby Bowden has a clear double standard for performance between Xavier Lee and Drew Weatherford. For whatever reason, Weatherford has a lot longer leash so to speak. This was the first shutout of Bobby Bowden's career to someone other than Miami, and his first shutout ever at home.
The only member of the big 3 still standing is the Florida Gators who are likely to play for a national title. (Though I would argue that if Southern Cal wins out they should get the nod over the Gators) But the Gators offense continues to sputter and one has to wonder how much longer Urban Meyer can continue to call gimmicky plays inside the opponents 20 before something really bad happens. Blake Mitchell, the same QB I described earlier in the season as being "D IAA caliber" looked like a world beater today. Thankfully, the Gators have Tim Tebow, and Tebow is the difference between the Gators probably playing for a national title, and being an also ran who lose lots of close games like Miami and Clemson. Tonight at the Miami Basketball game, someone told me the Canes were four plays away from being 9-1 while Florida is four plays away from being 5-5. This is certainly true, but one team made the plays and one team didn't. If you watched today's games, Miami clearly played better than Florida did and looked like a more capable team, that was quite frankly better coached. But Florida found a way to win thanks to Tim Tebow and Miami found a way to lose thanks to Ryan Moore and Bruce Johnson. Winning close games is contagious just like losing close games is a disease. Florida players expect to win the close ones, while Miami players expect to lose and thus drop easy catches, muff punts andbobble potential interceptions that could wrap up a win. That's why Urban Meyer is a winner even if his team looked ill prepared, and Larry Coker is not a winner even though the option and power running game totally caught Maryland flat footed, and seemed to signal a new style of offensive domination for the Canes.
Some other thoughts:
- The state's best QB, Matt Grothe led USF to another win this week. Can you imagine what could have been if not for a foolish penalty on the 2pt conversion versus Rutgers?
- Five years ago I went to a game when Miami blew Florida State out at Doak. I was impressed however by the number of FSU fans who stayed to the end and took their pounding, cheering their overmatched team on until the final gun. However, this year I have seen countless empty seats late in losses to Boston College and Wake Forest. Why? The younger breed of Florida State fan has no connection nor appreaciation for what was once the model program in the nation.
- If Kyle Wright takes another snap this season, Miami's fans should fly a banner over Larry Coker's house asking for his firing. As I have suspected for two years, Kirby Freeman is clearly the man to run UM's offense.

Bowden, the West Virginia hillbilly, for the last 20 years has convinced the best black athletes in the country to play ball at FSU. Bowden has turned more thugs in to respectable citizens then all the Florida Correctional Facilities combined. If Bowden does get fired, I hope Charles Crist, governor-elect, recruits him as the next Deputy Director of the State of Florida Correctional Facilities

You replaced the O-line coach and you still dont run the ball. Your running back has the game speed and ability to be a 100 yard rusher but your coaches dont use him properly.
Bobby hasnt coached, as in the true act of coaching in 5 years. The only thing he may do is gripe with a ref, or call a timeout.
Jeff Bowden all out stinks. To easy his mediocure QBs into the game, you need to run the ball. But since you cant do that, you force the QBs to pass... another thing that of late they arent good at. Buddy Lee could be a big time talent somewhere where a QB coach knew how to do his job.
The defense has talented athletes, but like many a defensive player, their football IQ is as low as Vince Young's. Being strong, fast, and explosive looks good on paper, but teaching these kids right from wrong in practice is something FSU isnt able to do.
Look at Rutgers for proof. Those kids arent as athletically gifted as many of the FSU players, but they play smarter, are better coached and are for real.
30-0 at home... thats a spit in the face, a bitch slap to the back of the head, and an "I fucked your sister" all in one. Not to mention it came at the hands of Wake Fucking Forest. But hey, it could have been worse. FSU could ahve lost to Troy!
I can assure you, like last year FSU will have more players playing in the NFL of this year's team than almost any other team in the Southeast including Florida and Auburn. Talent development and coaching are issues as are the high number of injuries FSU has suffered the last two seasons.
People on this website may not want to admit it but FSU has produced more impact NFL players than any other school in the nation (including the much hyped "U") over the past 15 years. If you put an all star team from FSU in the NFL against an all star team from Miami, the FSU team would rout them. In fact I can't think of one truly big time impact offensive player currently in the NFL (except for Edgerrin James who happened to play on the right team) who has produced consistently from Miami. Florida State has several: Warrick Dunn, Anquan Bolden, Lavernueus Coles, et, etc. The defenders are pretty equal, but Ernie Sims is on his way to being possibly better than Ray Lewis.
FSU always has the talent. The coaching is lacking these days, and the character as well.
Mike let me answer your concerns.....NO. I have never recieved money from Florida State University in any form.
As to your other point, I know that while Miami consistently beat FSU when both were at the top FSU usually had the more talented team. FSU is the school that produced Deion Sanders, Derrick Brooks, and countless other impact NFL players. Miami did not. In the period from 1985 to 1995 Miami produced more draft busts than any other school other than dare I say it, Florida. Miami typically recruited guys that were under the radar of national scouts and then coached them up real well. Why did UM beat FSU in 1990, 1991, and 1992 even though without question FSU had more talent? COACHING.
Dannis Erickson despite his personal flaws was a game day houdini who was a master at creating mismatches and adjusting during a game. Bobby Bowden on the other hand would turn vanilla and conservative, and thus Miami would edge them in the end.
Florida State has almost always had superior talent to Miami except in the 2000-2002 period. Every other year going back to 1985 FSU has had superior talent, but not superior coaching or superior "mojo" if you know what I mean.

Are you telling me that in the past 15 years FSU has produced someone that is a stud? Brad Johnson might have come close when he was 25, but now he outright sucks shit and never reached a Tom Brady level of play. Chris Weinke surely couldnt avoid a defensive Miami team with people like Dan Morgan, Warren Sapp, Vince Wilfork, etc, etc, etc.
To factor into this equation, how many former FSU and UM players played in last year's Super Bowl? Florida had 3.
Its easy to be a standout FSU WR in the NFL... especially when you are on a suck-ass team = Cardinals.

Sorry, but that's no analysis of Florida's victory.
I would say he wasn't even in to the top three players critical to UF's win.
1) Jarvis Moss - not only for the final FG block, but just as important the XP block that meant that SC could not play for a tie.
2) Chris Leak - Other than the interception, an excellent game; over 250 yards, with a number of passes for critical 3rd downs.
3) Earl Everitt - A force to be reconed with - six solo & 5 asst. tackles.
4) DeShawn Wynn - Finally being used as he should be (although he should have been given about 20 touches, instead of 12) Averaged 7.5 yards per carry.
Tebow did well, but his contribution was essentially two plays -- the conversion on fourth down (which I would say was his most important contribtion) and the 12 yard TD run. But remember that he made that run on a first and ten -- there's little reason to believe that the Gators could not have scored by running Wynn, etc. (Also remember how the Gators converted on 3rd and eight to get to the 12 yard line).
Gator your points are very well taken. I guess I am just too excited by Tebow and seem to want to give him way too much credit!
Jim Rome you are just a Nole hater. The reality is while Miami produced classic first round draft busts like Russel Maryland the #1 overall pick), Yatil Green, Jerome McDougal, Bill Hawkins, William Jospeh, Phil Buchanan, Mike Rumph, etc, etc and Florida produced busts like Huey Richardson, Ernie Mills, Clifford Charlton, Reidel Anthony, Jaquez Green, Jabar Gaffney, etc, etc Florida State has produced more solid players and fewer busts than any other school in the nation.
I am not claiming FSU was "better" than Miami all those years. What I am saying is that they always had better players. Their losses were do to poor coaching, lack of character and in many cases an appauling lack of discipline and untimely penalties. Obviously Miami was the better team, but they did not produce better players at the next level. The myth of the "U" was developed by guys who weren't good enough in High School to go to Florida State in many cases.
