I spent much of Wednesday in Gainesville preparing Focus Groups for the 2006 Elections. It was my first meaningful activity in Gainesville since my days at UF, and I was reminded of what a small town Gainesville is. The Gators are everything to the people in the town, and level of professionalism you find in a bigger city is totally lacking. That having been said it was nice to experience what a small town is like again for a change . While our focus group was focused on political issues, and the observers were fans of rival schools (multiple Miami and FSU fans as well as a single Auburn and Notre Dame fan) I decided to ask the participants on the way out about the Gators, sort of my own focus group. The consensus was that the Gators are very good right now and that Urban Meyer is something of a god. What was most striking was the attitude towards Chris Leak. Several people indicated that they wish he had transferred (one person said to South Carolina, ironically enough) when Meyer took over. The attitude towards Tim Tebow was one of hope and pure excitement. It will be interesting to see the reaction of Gator fans if Leak truly does have a big game down the stretch while Tebow continues to excel in his specialty role.

THANK YOU FOR FIANLLY POSTING SOMETHING NEW!
Gainesville is "small town" and when the morons that post on here often start making fun of it I will laugh at them.
Do they expect Gainesville will be offended? Will the entire town say "Damn it, they are making fun of us and we really need to become a shit whole like Miami!"
Or perhaps city officials will say, "We should be more like those big swanky cities with high crime and homelessness problems.
Gainesville is what it is!
Kartik, not that I am defending G-ville, but what was the demographic of your focus groups? Was there a full gamut of representative people?
Urban Meyer is a god in comparison to Ron Zook. Just like Lou Holtz was a god in comparison to the coach he took over for at SC.
Atleast Florida fans are smart enough to recognize they have 2 talented QBs... 2 more than Miami.
Yeah the town is redneck in some corners, but its also home to the best faculty in the state.
Did you see your old professors Kelso and Scherr?
Kartik, you've been hanging around too much with those trial lawyers all of whome went to FSU and have nothing nice to say about Gainesville.
By level of professionalism I was speaking to the cheapness of the facility (the only one in town)when compared to the facilities in Tampa, Miami, Tallahassee and Orlando as well as the lack of technology availible, and the total lack of fine dining choices for our clients. Thankfully we made up for it yesterday in Tampa and St Pete.
G'ville is a great town, but it is a small town stuck in a foregone time in some many ways.
Kartik I agree. I myself would have wanted to visit a tittie bar or something other than Cafe Risque with my constituents!
Very true, jim rome!
