Press Day News and Notes

Today, coaches from across the nation faced the media. Here are some highlights of the press conferences from local coaches.

  • Bobby Bowden said "The other guy (Xavier Lee) will start this week." He however did not commit to Lee for the remainder of the season and implied Drew Weatherford would be given an opportunity to win his job back.
  • Central Florida at 2-6 was shredded for 50+ points by Houston this past Saturday. Nonetheless Coach George O'Leary praised his defenses' intensity but criticized his front seven for not getting enough pressure on the QB.
  • Miami Head Man Larry Coker indicated backup QB Kirby Freeman will be given an opportunity to play early in this weeks game against rival Virginia Tech.
  • Urban Meyer mentioned he'd like to get DeShawn Wynn some more touches this week against Vanderbilt and try and control the clock better with a lead, than the Gators did last week.

Houston was gaining chunks of yards at will in the second half. 25 yards a play! O'Leary NEEDS to shake up the defensive staff ASAP.

I'm still a big Urban Meyer fan, but comments like this drive me crazy -- it's just dawning on Meyer that Wynn brings something to the table that others don't?
