The game some consider the greatest ever played, and I consider the most important game in the evolution of College Football from an option/run based game to a more open offensive game will be aired tonight on ESPN Classic. Following the 1983 regular season, Nebraska was considered by many the greatest team of all time. Heisman Trophy winner Mike Rozier led the Huskers along with superstars Turner Gill and Irving Fryar. In the Orange Bowl they were to be corronated Champs against heavy underdog Miami, who featured a scrawny freshman QB named Bernie Kosar and a pro style offense led by Howard Schnellenberger the former offensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins. The Hurricanes much like Florida State and BYU, other schools that ran a pro style offense were not taken seriously by the College Football aristocracy, as the game was still option based and run oriented.
The game that shocked the world and changed College Football forever is on tonight. I for one will be watching every minute.
