The NCAA released the graduation rates for athletes at all member institutions yesterday.
Today we'll go over the graduation rates for Football players and next week we will post Basketball and Baseball.
University of Florida 80%
University of Miami 76%
University of S. Fla 66%
Florida State Univ. 53%
University of Cent. Fla. 42%
Florida Atlantic University 33%
Florida International Univ. NR
Clearly these numbers demonstrate a major problem. When you consider that both UF and Miami lost several players early to draft their numbers which already the best in the state become already more respectable. But the numbers for UCF and FAU in particular, schools that are trying to develop a reputation both in sports and in the classroom are pathetic. Florida Atlantic has been trying to tout itself as a public school alternative to local kids who want to travel to Florida or pay big bucks to attend Miami. Clearly for schools like FAU, student athletes are being used as promotions to build the visibility of the school and once they exhaust their NCAA eligibility no effort is made to graduate them. The same appears to be the case for UCF.

The Gators are the tops. We are the best school in the state and we have the classiest players also.
Note how low FSU's graduation rate is when compared to the two other football factories in the state. How is this explained? While Urban Meyer and Larry Coker are trying to produce good kids, Bobby Bowden is either senile or he does not give a rat's ass about whether kids go to class or not.
It seems like this is just another one of a long and storied list of things we Florida is superior in over the rest fo the state's schools.
This really isnt a surprise, considering the entrance requirements.
Perhaps now you punters will respect the "Public Ivy" moniker.
ADMISSION STANDARDS BABY!
CANT GET IN TO UF... GO TO FSU.
CANT AFFORD TO PAY FOR MIAMI... GO TO FSU
