College Baseball Update!!!!

Because we're sick of football, right? Well, sort of.

Anyway, I've been busy with my own college baseball blog, one that I will ask Kartik to link to once I am done completing it, and there's a ton going on.

Collegiate Baseball recently released it's Top 40 Recruiting Classes (listed below) and Miami was a close second to South Carolina.

Also in the Top 40 (state schools and ACC opponents) is Florida (3), North Carolina (6), Florida State (13), Georgia Tech (14), Clemson (16) and N.C. State (26).

The relase from the University of Miami athletics Web site:

The 2007 Miami baseball team gathered for the first time at Mark Light Field on Wednesday afternoon, following the first day of classes at the University of Miami.

Twenty-one Hurricanes return from the 2006 team that went 42-24 and took one of the most impressive roads to the CWS in school history. Fourteen of those returners were on the final CWS roster, including first baseman Yonder Alonso, second baseman Jemile Weeks, shortstop Roger Tomas, third baseman Gus Menendez, catcher Richard O'Brien, and outfielders Blake Tekotte and Dennis Raben.

Miami's returning pitchers included 2006 ace Scott Maine, who passed on signing with the Colorado Rockies over the summer, senior right-hander Danny Gil, southpaw starter Manny Miguelez and Jason Santana.

The veterans will be joined by an incoming class that includes five transfers and 11 freshmen.
"I'm very excited about our players returning," head coach
Jim Morris said. "With the talent that we have in this incoming class, we have a chance to have an outstanding year."

UM's freshman class includes; right-handed pitcher Kyle Bellamy (Davie/Cypress Bay HS), outfielder Kevin Diego (Miami/Christopher Columbus HS), left-handed pitcher Eric Erickson (Sarasota/Sarasota HS), catcher Jason Hagerty (St. Louis, Mo./St. John Vianney HS), right-handed pitcher John Housey (Davie/Nova HS), shortstop Ryan Jackson (Miami Springs/Florida Christian HS), right-handed pitcher Alex Koronis (Miami/Monsignor Pace HS), right-handed pitcher Anthony Nalepa (Miami/Chaminade-Madonna Prep), right-handed pitcher Michael Rudman (Miami/Killian HS), third baseman Mark Sobolewski (Sarasota/Sarasota HS) and right-handed pitcher Kyle Snyder (Wellington/Wellington HS).

Transfers joining UM for fall practice include sophomore outfielder Dave DiNatale (Parkland/Central Florida), junior right-handed pitcher Enriques Garcia (Mechanicsville, Md./Potomac State JC), junior left-handed pitcher P.J. Fisher (Las Vegas, Nev./Miami Dade CC), junior right-handed Christopher Borgognoni (Miami/Marshall).

The team will begin individual workouts next week and will conduct fall practice November 2-18.

Fun stuff.

Gator Mike,

That's Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's top recruiting class.

They are, generally, spot on with everything college baseball -- moreso than Baseball America -- so I trust it.

Thanks for the kind words

Thanks, Joe.

As far as preseason rankings, they get released either later in the year January.

But you're right, they should be up there -- 21 players are back from last years team.

Sorry, but I cant approve of anything baseball in the first month of college football season.

If I cared enough to be a recruit-nick, I'd come find you and strangle the life out of you for even mentioning college baseball before November.

Spend your time focused on a sport that matters right now.
